Renegade Latitude 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,214 miles

We bought a 2017 Jeep Renegade in September 2017. Our Renegade has a very hard shift problem and makes a loud clunk sound around the 25-30mph range...it hits so hard that it feels like someone hit you in the back of the car while driving. We have had our car serviced 3 times at the dealership for this problem and it still continues. When we went back for the 3rd time on May 24th, the service advisor told us that it wasn't throwing any codes so they didn't know what to do to fix it. He also informed us that this was a big problem with the Renegades and all they could do was to flash a software update even though he knows it will not fix the problem. Another tech said "is your car still under warranty?" We said yes, it only has 32,000 miles on it. He said to the other tech, We should just put a whole new transmission in the thing. The other tech said, If we do that, it will just be putting the same kind of transmission back in it (9 speed transmission) which would eventually have the same problem. We were told that most people just want to try to trade the car in for something else and the service tech advised us to talk with a sales person. So while talking with the sales person, she tried to get us into a certified used car, which we did not want to do. We bought a new car for a reason, to not end up with some else's problems with a used car. Then we ask to speak to the Manager. He told us that any car he put us in would just have the same transmission and possibly the same problems. The manager actually told us that we would just be better off trading it in at another dealership like Honda or something. We went to the Subaru dealership to speak with them about possibly trading it in and as I figured they only wanted to offer us a trade in value of $10,000 when we still owe $15,000. I just hate that we bought a new car and are having so many issues with it already. It just doesn't seem fair that no one at the Jeep dealership is willing to help its customers when they clearly know they have sold many customers faulty vehicles.

Renegade Trailhawk 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

My 2017 Jeep Renegade 2.4 Liter, 9-speed transmission will not shift into 9th gear! I can manual shift it into ninth gear and the engine seems like it works just fine in ninth gear. But when I put the transmission in to drive (D) it put the Jeep in 8th Gear and switches between 8th and 1ST. I have tried setting the cruise control at 55, 65, & 75 and at no time will it shift into 9th Gear.

Today 02/12/2018 I took my Jeep in to be service for this issue and they told me that “My Little 2.4L engine is the problem and that it just doesn’t have the torque/power ratio to handle the 9th Gear at this altitude of Colorado!" I was also told that I’m in a 1% of people that have this vehicle in HIGH altitudes that will have this issue and if I was driving it at Sea Level I wouldn’t have this issue! So basically, I was told to LIVE with it!

I was never TOLD that the vehicle I was leasing had an issue with not working like it was deigned too. I FEEL RIPPED OFF! When you are looking to spend $28 K for a vehicle you want it to work like it should and it isn’t! I have found now other people that have the same issue and two of them live at Sea level! (Virginia Beach, VA & Melbourne, FL) I now feel lost with nowhere to turn to help me with this!

Renegade Sport 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,200 miles

I have owned my 2017 Jeep Renegade for less than 3 weeks and it has approx. 1200 miles on it. Yesterday morning I went to go to work, and it didn't want to start. When it finally started, multiple warning lights and messages went off including service engine, service parking brake, and service hillside start assist. All lights were lit up on the shifter and it wouldn't shift into gear. Called dealer, dealer had me call Chrysler Roadside Assistance who sent a flatbed two truck to tow my rig 50 miles to the dealer. Dealer finally figured out that the Transmission Control Module is bad and they have no idea when they will fix it and get it back to me. I was told maybe a week or two.

I am highly pissed. This is my 5th Chrysler vehicle I have owned since 2003 - all bought new - and I have never had an issue like this. The rig has 1200 miles on it!!
