Renegade 2.4L

While driving down the highway doing 55mph, all of a sudden my rpms shot up to 5, and when I looked down my gear shifter had popped out of drive and was between drive and neutral. I had a hard time getting off the road so I could stop and get it into park. It was definitely completely in gear before driving.
