I'm posting this to help anyone else that may have this problem.
On my second day of owning the Renegade, I pulled down my driveway and realized the car was in neutral even though I was pretty certain I had put it in drive. The next day my D light on shifter started flashing while driving and wouldn't switch gears. I put it in park and back in drive and it seemed ok.
The day after that all the lights on the shifter lit up and the car went into neutral while driving down the road. I was able to pull it off the road. The car died. Then when I got it restarted I couldn't get it out of park. It was giving transmission errors and also auto parking brake errors.
I had the Jeep towed to the dealership. The cable going to the transmission control module was not properly seated. They fixed the cable and the car seemed ok. Then 20 miles later, it did all of the same things again and died in the middle of the road. This time, the entire transmission control module failed completely and had to be replaced.
We are hopeful that the problem has been resolved. It took two tows to the dealership to figure out the problem. I saw a similar issue posted on here where the person said that his issue had not been resolved after multiple trips to the dealership, so I wanted to share my experience in case it helps someone else. If my control module had not completely failed, the problem may not have been resolved as quickly.
