Sudden acceleration occurred while idling in traffic while the brakes were being applied. This caused the vehicle to run in back of a truck. No injuries reported. Dealer was notified. The consumer stated that the dealer downloaded software to power train computer from the 1998 service bulletin. The bulletin stated that when the temperature rose to 103 celsius it could cause high RPM in parking lot maneuvers or stop and go traffic. The consumer stated that this should have been done to all 99 models. The consumer sold the vehicle.

problem #1

Wrangler 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 720,001 miles
Heard loud noises coming from the engine. Check engine light came on. The manifold was cracked in two places. The area dealers happen to have the newly designed manifold in stock due to the problems with the manifold cracking. Have spoken with several people and the same problem occurred with them. This should definitely be recalled. The new manifold has springs built in to make room for give -- the old one did not, therefore causing them to crack. It is very unsafe and costs a lot to get it fixed.
