The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph, the vehicle started to make an abnormal knocking and bucking noise. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the transmission mount was rotted away from the frame. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN number was unavailable. Updated 4/15/15 updated 9/21/2017

Intermittently the vehicle will jump out of first gear during engagement of the clutch. The failure leaves the vehicle in neutral. Merging into traffic can be a very dangerous when the gear shift jumps into neutral.

I own a 2000 Jeep Wrangler which I bought new. Recently I began having trouble shifting into second gear and sometimes it would pop out while driving. Soon after I began to have brake issues and had a mechanic look at it. He said he had never seen a Jeep rusted out so bad with so few miles on it and said it was a hazard to drive. He said the brake lines were rusted through as well as the support for the transmission. He said the frame was in terrible shape and said I was lucky the thing didn't fall apart while I was driving it. This vehicle only has 85,000 miles on it.

2000 Jeep Wrangler, ,,, 17,215 miles.....complete auto transmisson breakdown...needed a whole new transmission
- Garfield, NJ, USA
New transmission at 479 miles plus several other repairs. Speedometer off 8 miles per hour. This problem still has not been fixed. Ding in door post between windshield and driver's door on delivery. Wind noise above passenger door frame. Leaks around driver and back door seals. Oil gallery plug had to be replaced at 3,149 miles. Had to remove transmission and transfer case. Jeep was in shop for a total of 32 days in order to have all work accomplished. New transmission still not working correctly. Transmission jumps out of first gear sometimes when vehicle is moving forward. New transmission was installed, but problem of clunking sound during gear change and kicking out of gear is not solved. Was told by Agency shop that Chrysler corporation had a new manfacturer for 2000 Jeep transmissions and the noise was just part of the lighter transmisson. Transmission still is noisy and sounds dry all the time. We are afraid to dirve the vehicle as we don't really have faith the transmission will hold up and we will be in trouble at some point in traffic.
