When I go to fill up when it gets full it spills out of the top all over side of Jeep and ground saw there is others out there having same problem very unsafe. I am second owner Jeep should doing something about this. Please help.

I bought this vehicle used and noticed that when filling the tank it actually splashes fuel out of the fill tube every time the gas station nozzle clicks off when full. I have driven this Jeep from North Carolina to Michigan and used several different styles of nozzles from gas stations in many states. I have attempted to slow the fuel delivery, angle the nozzle differently, stop early and resume filling. The result is always the same. Enough fuel to run down a square foot area on my car and leave a puddle on the ground will always shoot out under pressure. I end up with gas on my car, on me and on the ground. This can not be considered safe for my well being or the environment. I have been told that I need to replace my gas tank, a $1200 repair, to fix the problem.

On February 18th 2012, I purchased a used 2005 Jeep Wrangler rubicon from a Jeep dealership. Every time I've filled up for gas, there is an over spill of about 1/8 of a gallon. This happened on 2/27/12, 2/29/12, 3/15/12, 3/25/12, and 4/23/12. Even when slowing down towards the end of the fill up, it still spills over, just less severe. I took it into the dealer. They performed a fuel system software upgrade on 4/06/12, but that did not correct the problem. This is a huge nuisance (not to mention safety/fire hazard) and from what little research I've done, does not sound like an isolated problem.

I had bought a Jeep Wrangler with approx 45000 miles. Right around the 55000 the check engine light came on and then I started having gas blow out of the gas tank during refueling. The Jeep now has 85000 and still has the gas blow back. I had taken it to a Jeep dealer and the mention that it needed a smoke test. I found that I had a major evap leak in the fuel system, I had a mechanic replace the fuel hoses. After the repairs. I still have the fuel blow back. I live in the va beach area, where fuel on the ground causes an environment problem especially when I fuel on Norfolk naval base. I had fuel sprayed on me and also cautioned the wife, who already had it splash on her face. Luckily, did not spray in the eyes. When pumping gas the automatic shutoff does not kick in fast enough before blow back occurs. It happens with out warning. Is there a resolution to this issue with the Jeep Wrangler?

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. The driver was refueling when fuel was spewed out from the filler neck and onto the driver's leg. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostics. The mechanic stated the fuel tank would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

2005 Jeep Wrangler unlimited - there is a back-splash issue when fueling the vehicle, every time! if you do not just stop it early (before it is full) it will splash back every time you fuel, sometimes quite a bit of fuel spilled. I have talked to several other owners of this make and model Jeep and most of them said they have the same problem. I called Chrysler about this and asked if this was an ongoing issue. The representative said they were not aware of the issue. I find that unlikely.

When filling gas tank, fuel splashes back out of fill pipe. It doesn't matter how fast or slow the tank is filled, or what position the fill nozzle is placed in the fill opening, it splashes back out of the fill pipe, covering the side of the vehicle, as well as the person filling if standing too close. I see this as a very dangerous situation, as static electricity could easily ignite the fuel in this scenario. I've read on Jeep blogs that the cure is to replace the fuel tank due to a defective valve in the tank at the cost of over $900. But unfortunately the replacement tank is just another defective tank, as there is not an updated unit available, thus setting up another future failure. There is not recall on this, I think there should be. Please keep me advised of any actions taken in this matter. When refueling the vehicle, fuel pump never shuts off. This has been a problem with the vehicle now for a long time. The fuel system allows the pump to continue running after the tank is full. It does not matter what gas station I go to. Gasoline always overflows and spills out onto the ground. I was recently refueling my and the vehicle and the pump did not shut off. A substantial amount of gas flowed out onto the ground and something lit the fuel vapors causing a small fire. I was able to put it out with an extinguisher. This could have caused the entire gas station to catch fire/explode and is extremely dangerous...updated 09/12/12 updated 09/12/2012
