I just purchased this 2007 Wrangler. It has been popping out of 1st gear. The dealership says it is $1,600 to replace the synchronizer assembly. They told me there is a service bulletin. It is Service Bulletin # 21-001-10 Rev A. The bulletin states that it is reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty. Bummer.

I bought the 2007 Jeep JK used with approximately 81,000 miles. Shortly, after owning the vehicle I experienced the Jump Out of Gear (JOG). It is a very frightening, and potentially dangerous problem with this transmission. The problem occurs when starting in first gear from a dead stop. Most often, there are vehicles behind you, when the JOG occurs the vehicles behind are not prepared for your loss of forward momentum. On one instance I have been hit from behind. On many other instances there have been some close calls. The other danger is if one is pulling out and crossing a traffic lane. Losing forward momentum can be very dangerous as cars approach from either the left or right side. I truly believe this issue is a result of a transmission design flaw that should be covered by Jeep no matter if the original warranty has expired. In most of these cases, there has to be several related injuries before these manufacturers will take action. It is all a cost benefit analysis.

Just bought my 2007 Wrangler Rubicon and its been popping out of first gear if I don't hold it in to place. Dealer said this was a common problem and it was $1400 to repair. However the part was on back order and could take several months to get. Sounds like a recall item to me!!

I bought my 2007 Jeep Wrangler used with 48,000 miles on it. I love it but after a few months after it popped out of first gear. It does this periodically and it is hard to determine when it will happen. I can go weeks without this happening or sometimes it will happen multiple times in a day. Not sure what to do since it is not under warranty, and I know it will probably be an expensive fix. It is definitely an annoying problem to deal with because it sounds like my transmission is going to fall out, but outside of that happening it runs great.

Pops out of first gear while starting, as well as sometimes when it is fully engaged. Extremely nerve racking, it doesn't just pop out of gear, it sounds like it is going to drop the transmission out of the engine compartment violently. The only solution so far has just been to hold in gear as well as putting it in second before first gear or back and forth to ensure fully into gear. Happens sometimes once a week and sometimes a handful of times in an hour... Drive like you're ancient and take your time until you change gears.

Every time the Jeep would pop out of 1st gear, it was so violent it felt and sounded as if the Jeep had been rear ended. After several years of dealing with this, I rebuilt the transmission and synchros. That still didn’t fix the problem. Installing the B&M sport shifter DID solve the problem. This hasn’t happened since.
