Wrangler Unlimited X

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,000 miles

At random times while driving, the windshield wipers would engage, horn will honk, windshield misters will spray and lights start flashing. This happens intermittently, disrupting driving and sometimes causing engine stall. Only way to get it to stop is to disengage battery as it even happens without key in ignition.

To all 3 prior complaints....I TOTALLY understand. Started Jeep @ 6am to go to work on small 7-1/2 mile island, when horn started blowing, wipers going crazy and wiper fluid spewing all over vehicle. I was so embarassed-all I needed was a RED LIGHT ON TOP and I could have been an AMBULANCE!! Drove over speed limit so as to get to work (didn't dare turn it off) to find ONLY fix was to disconnect battery in the DARK, where work location butts up to residents who were SLEEPING, duh...Mechanic could not get problem to happen again until 1 week later, only to find out it's one of 3 major module problems-such as the FRONT CONTROL MODULE. Now this part is dealer item only, not in stock and was told "could be 2 days, could be 2 weeks"? It's been 2 weeks and still NOTHING and I've only had this vehicle for 6 months-WHAT THE HELL? TELL MECHANICS TO CHECK ALL MODULES-BODY CONTROL, FRONT CONTROL, ETC! I can only hope that if & when the part does come in that it solves problem-ya think? :)

Wrangler Rubicon 3.2L V6

  • Manual transmission
  • 12,340 miles

I was vacationing at Gatlinburg, Tennesse for a family gathering... I was sitting with my parents, wife and kids on the deck enjoying the view, some wine, great laughs when I hear "someone" blowing their horn, not once, not twice but numerous times for short blasts, nothing sustained. I look at my wife, shaking my head saying, "We just can't escape idiots and inconsiderate people..." as my son walks up the stair to the deck..."hey Dad, the horn on your jeep keeps blowing..." I just looked at him and said, "Thanks Erich..."

I hurried to get the keys, thinking maybe that the key battery is low, or something is hitting the panic button in my wifes purse... I run down to the Jeep, a top of the line Rubicon, beautiful in every way except "reliability..." Anyway, I unlock the door, still keeps beeping... I put the key in the ignition... to no avail! I start the jeep still a few beeps and then it stops... an hour later it happened again, then subsequent and less frequent occurances. The embarrassment came when we were driving down the road, on the Gatlinburg strip when the horn went off a few times... luckily, folks just thought I was rude, no one flipped me off or called me an idiot stick.

It was a weekend, the dealerships were closed... however, as the day went on the horn stopped completely and did not do it again. Later, I talked to a friend, he works for Chrysler, his explaination - which makes sense given what happened to me, but very stupid from an engineering perspective...I had taken off the top to drive to the water park, my wife, mother and kids aboard, I only took off the front two front roof flaps, if you will... and it started raining - hard! Anyway, the floor boards were filled with water, of course it being a Rubicon I drove on in traffic like it was meant to drive as if I wanted it to rain on me, not that I didn't have room to haul the roof flaps, anyway, it seems that the sensor for the horn is under the drivers seat. If it gets wet, or moisture gets to the sensor - the horn will go off until it drys!

In closing, I had to make a story, or light of the situation after the fact... mainly because of the fact that here I am, driving a Rubicon... U-Tube has videos of folks driving in streams.... here we get hammered with a hard rain - the horn starts blowing, not once, but at least six different occasions on a Jeep Rubicon Unlimited Wrangler! An outdoor, all you can be jeep in which the horns blows when it gets wet?!

Wrangler 4 Door V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 21,000 miles

I had my Jeep inspected by my local Jeep dealer yesterday and they told me nothing was wrong with the car. This morning I was driving the car and like in the movie Little Miss Sunshine the cars horn randomly started going off. Every week this car which is only 2 and a half years old develops a new problem. If your looking for a new car do your self a favor do not buy a Chrysler, Jeep, or Dodge. That is if you don't mind having your car at the shop for four days a week every week.
