No heat and have had heater core and radiator flushed TWICE! The dealer says they have no known problems or recalls from Jeep. BS! everyone I know who has a JK complains about the lack of heat. The heater core is full of casting sand and the standard flush will not move it out. Jeep needs to man up and fix the issue!
Update from Nov 7, 2017: I have been told by a friend at dealership that a STAR case was issued by Chrysler. The STAR CASE number is S1207000008
He said to mention this to the local dealer service center and they should inspect for sludge/sand in cooling system

Bought this Jeep in March didn't notice problem till next fall. Delt with it for awhile then took to dealer for a recall and had them check it. The response was that a mechanics note said to replace the radiator, overflow bottle and the heater core at a cost of over $2000. If Jeep knows it's a problem (from what I've read, casting sand or sub-par coolant) why do I have to pay? Sounds like they f@#ked up but wouldn't stand up to fix it. It's now -4 and I have NO HEAT.

Mentioned to the service writer that the heater has very weak output. I was told that "a lot of them seem to be like that" and they had no suggestions and did nothing.

Bought this used 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara in September, 2016 from a dealer in Cincinnati, Ohio. I test drove the vehicle on a 88 degree day so I couldn't tell if the heater was working properly or not. After getting it home to northern Michigan and turning on the heater on the first cool fall day, I immediately noticed just cool air coming from the heating system on the driver's side. After paying for a heater core flush and a thorough evaluation by the Jeep dealer it was determined that the heater core was plugged. I was informed at that time that there was no recall on the heater core and the repair was not covered by warranty. With winter on the way, I had not choice but to fix it at a cost of $1,163. It seems based on many other stories like this, Jeep obviously had a supplier problem and should step up to the plate and cover these repairs.

First of all, JEEP brand is piece of sh*t.. JEEP m*fs don't take care of their customers. I brought a brand new MW3 Jeep, top of the line and paid lot of $$$. Heater on the driver side does not work, when took it to dealership, they said it would cost $2000, then I called the JEEP to get it fixed, they said it's not under warranty. Couldn't get any heat to come out of the vents. Took it to the dealer, as I've read about other heat issues others are having. They diagnosed it as being a bad heater regulator door motor. Hopefully there will be a recall or fact bulletin, (and I can get my $$$ back) LOL I guess it could have been worse, BUT time will tell. I also left the jeep for a misfire and they replaced the left head.

I bought my 2012 Jeep Wrangler used in February 2015 with approximately 11,110 miles. By this winter (2016) I had put approximately 26,000 miles on the vehicle. When I went to turn on the heat the driver's side was blowing cold air and the passenger's side hot. I took it to my local garage and they said I had casting sand built up and suggested I replace my heater core and radiator. They encouraged me to contact Chrysler to see if they would do a "good faith" warranty replacement since this was a known problem. I called Chrysler and they said I needed to take my Jeep to a dealership for an official diagnostic test before they would make a decision. The dealership informed me that my heater core was already replaced in Jan. 2015 and likely needed to be replaced. The part was still under a Mopar warranty thankfully, but Mopar wanted the dealership to flush the heater core before they would authorize replacement of the part. Soooo, my heater core was flushed and now I have heat again. However, if this is a problem that results from casting sand build up (which the dealership mechanic said it was) won't this just happen again? In summary, at 11,000 miles the heater core was replaced. The new heater core needed to be replaced after 26,000 miles, but was flushed instead. I'm thinking of trading in the 2012 model for a newer one if this is a known problem with this year...

I bought my 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport JK new in 2012 and it was awesome. Around 6000 miles, the water pump went out and it was replaced by the dealer. I should've known back then that this casting sand issue was in play and was most likely what happened to the water pump, but luckily it was under warranty.
At the time, I lived in Arizona and I never really noticed the heating problem until I moved to Missouri and last winter, I noticed it. The left side was not blowing near as hot as the right side. Its barely warm on the left. I have read many posts about the casting sand issue and I have had it flushed and it was better for a day or two. It did come back and its like before.
I hear that the job is a new heater core and will cost me upwards of $2000 and I'm not in a position to pay that right now so I am just dealing with it. Jeep should take care of this as many many JK owners have dealt with this in the past.

My 2012 Jeep Wrangler blows cold on the drivers side. After reading the other posts on this site it sounds identical to some of the others. A car with a little over 20,000 miles and the heater doesn't work!!!!!!! This is clearly a manufacturing defect. CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE CHRYSLER COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT?????

I said I would never own a Jeep because of crappy reliability reports but I got a great deal from a friend on this one. However it will be the last Jeep I ever own because of this.

2012 Wrangler Sport. No heat on the drivers side. After doing some research I learned that this is a common problem with the Wranglers and is likely caused because casting sand had not been sufficiently flushed from the engine block when manufactured. Coolant stirs up the casting sand and it then settles in the bottom of the radiator, heater core and overflow tank. The sediment in the heater core restricts coolant flow causing poor heating of the vehicle.
I checked my overflow tank and found about 3" of sand in the bottom. The service manager at the Jeep dealership said he did not have a recall, campaign or service bulletin on this and it would not be covered by Jeep. He said he'd not heard of the issue, but when he asked fellow service managers they had heard of it in older Wranglers. This is a pretty outrageous issue if you ask me. Nobody but Jeep dealers have serviced the vehicle, so where would significant amounts of sand-like residue come from to get into the cooling system?
Any feedback or help from the community would be appreciated.

Greetings, in MAY of 2013 I Purchased this beautiful 4 DR 2012 Jeep Wrangler Call of Duty MW3 with 9k on dash board, I Live in Tucson so it doesn't get real cold but this winter we have been under 32 degrees a few times. as soon as the cold weather set in I realized the driver side blows in significantly cold to Luke warm air than passenger side, at this point my jeep was out of warranty (36 month rule). I had 35,000 and had my local mechanic perform a back flush. Also I inspected the radiator reservoir and discovered a large amount of sludge at the bottom, It looked almost like peanut butter. the back flush did not help. So this week I bit the bullet and had the heater core replaced. My Mackinac pulled the old core and did a cutaway And he said in the 35yrs has a shop foremen he has never seen anything like this. the core is over 95% plugged and one half has over 3/8" of gum build up. This is costing me over $1,800.00. i contact the local dealership and they let me know is no free solution to fix my car due to the fact my car was out of warranty ... I Get in touch with the corporate office trying to present this as a major manufacture problem due to thousands of INTERNET threads on this particular issue and the answer was send my invoice to Chrysler reimbursement for review. Their should be a class action suit for the issue.

The heat quit working on the drivers side of our 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sport in November 2015. We contacted Lake Norman Chrysler Jeep, Charlotte, NC, where we purchased this vehicle (Jan 28, 2015) and were told the heater core was replaced already on Feb 1, 2014. We were told this was not in warranty and to replace would cost $1800! Reading online complaints and now seeing this is a known issue with the 2012 Jeep's is unacceptable Chrysler/Jeep wouldn't do something about it. Sticking to the consumer like this is wrong. I will pursue with our State Attorney General. We should get together and file a class action lawsuit against Chrysler/Jeep. Totally Unacceptable.

In the and i have no solution to fix this problem , some people have their problem fix by changing the heatercore and radiator I did it and i was not that luky , works for few days and back on same issue...

FREEZING MY ASS OFF !! This Jeep Wrangler heater crap is unbelievable. It blows lukewarm to cold air on the driver side floor, right dash vent, and defroster. At 11,000 miles had it to the dealer under warranty. Replaced heater core. Drove it away same problem. Brought it back ... replaced radiator, oil cooler, and heater core again. Drove it away, got it to operating temp, same thing ..... COLD !!! Sent it in today and getting Chrysler involved, waiting for them to recommend what to do next. From what I am seeing in this forum there is a MAJOR problem with these Jeep Wranglers. How it has not been in the news is beyond me. I think Chrysler is stonewalling it and it is a major engineering defect from the get go. Its funny? I live in Western NY and last winter was bone chilling. The heater sucks and you freeze while driving at 0 Deg F. This Jeep has been tied up now for 2 weeks and there is no straight answer yet to what is going on. Next option is talking to the district rep, if no luck with him or her, its off to the NYS attorney generals office and to talk about it, and the local News stations for starters. I think Chrysler will have their hands full with this one for a while . ....... To be continued !
Update from Jan 4, 2016: Well, Chrysler dealership seemed to finally fix it . Replaced heater core , oil cooler and radiator AGAIN ! It seems to be ok and blowing good hot air. This luckily was fixed under warranty , within 2 weeks of it expiring !! This is a disaster . The way I understand it is that for some reason the cooling systems have contaminants in it , ALL OF THE 2012 's !!! and that is the recommendation Chrysler gives to fix . SORRY YOU POOR SOB'S THAT WARRANTY'S RAN OUT YOU ARE S... OUT OF LUCK . Expect to pay a couple of grand to get it fixed if you are out of warranty and you want to be warm . Otherwise you will be freezing you ass off if you live in the Northern areas. Southern folks don't worry , air conditioning works fine . Well well well how convenient for Chrysler to blow this one off as a major dumb ass screw up and not own up to it . I guess they played the odds right . 50 % of the jeeps sold probably are in the south where you do not need good heat . This i s a cover up that should be taken to all the states Attorneys General.

Bought Jeep Brand spanking new back in 2012. Since day one we have had problems with the vehicle warming up or cooling off. One side always blew warmer. The first 6 months or so we blew it off thinking that that was just the way Jeeps were because we had never owned one. Then in OCT the battery died, without any warning or so the dealership said.... but we waited the month for the battery to come in and once it did and they replaced it they found coolant everywhere sooooo..... in Oct they finally admitted something was going on and decided it was the radiator had a hole in it due to corrosion.
Come to 2 wks ago Nov 18 2015 I called Chrysler and let them know we were having the same problems as last year and asked if I had to take it to dealer since it was out of warranty. I was told "NO" by a phone rep. Took it took another mechanic and he FINALLY got to the bottom of my problems for the last 3 years... heater core was leaking. There was antifreeze everywhere and Fuzz? Called Chrysler back and let them know and asked where to send paperwork to and was told that because I didn't take to a dealer I am probably SOL. Really! So 3 weeks before Xmas and looks as though I am out $1500. All of this for a vehicle that is supposed to be worth its weight in Gold!

The heat was fixed with the heater core replacement; however, it did not fix the problem long term. I brought my Jeep in for the 30,000 scheduled maintenance and also reported fluid that was leaking. After ripping me off with the maintenance work (replacing all the fluids rather than checking them per the Owner's Manual and not calling me to inform me that they were indeed replacing) the dealership told me my radiator was "damaged" causing the fluid leak. They also said that by replacing the radiator, my heat would work. Once again, upon picking up my vehicle, the heat did work.

We bought the car in Feb 2015 and didn't use the heater much before Spring, but noticed it took a long time to heat up, Now that cold weather is on us again and we moved to a house without a garage, we noticed it a lot more - it took over an hour for the interior of the car to heat up to anything remotely comfortable. Took it in to the dealer for a look, and they said the heater core needs to be replaced and the radiator flushed, all to the tune of $1,600! This car is only 3 years old with less than 40K miles on it! I said thank you and I would get back with them on the fix. Then I remembered we bought an extended warranty from Carefree Car Protection, and we got the "Gold Plus" coverage that includes the heater core! So I am going to call them tomorrow and arrange for the fix.
But this has to be a manufacturer defect, he heater should not go out on a car of this age.

The heat was not working properly. More so the driver's side vents. I brought it to the dealership and they claimed the temperature was "within spec." I called the manager to my vehicle and she agreed with me that it was not working properly. They ripped out the dash and replaced the heater core. Upon picking up my vehicle, the heat worked.
Update from Nov 20, 2015: The actual mileage was 7800 miles when this first occurred.

I will be bringing in my Jeep for the third time to have the heat fixed. The passenger side heat feels warmer than the drivers side. Let's see if they can find yet another thing wrong to fix.
Update from Nov 20, 2015: When I brought it in, I mentioned all the complaints I was reading online of the very same issue. After having my Jeep for six days, they ended up replacing the heater core (again!) and flushing the coolant to rid the system of any casting sand. There were two Star Reports on the issue.

Very little heat at all. Some heat on the right side, but not enough to warm up in the winter. Flushed coolant, changed radiator and thermostat. Final fix was the heater core. When I flushed the coolant, it was full of brown crud. I definitely think it was the casting sand. Heater core issues with all of the Jeeps my co-workers own also. We deliver mail in our Jeeps. Not having heat in the winter sucks!
