problem #1

Oct 062014

Wrangler Unlimited Sport 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,243 miles

Having only owned the Jeep for 12 weeks I expected no issues. A few days ago I started it up midday when the air temp was 17 degrees Celsius, and upon shifting from park to reverse the car jerked strongly and the engine light came on. It jerked strongly again when shifting from drive back into park but at no other point in the journey (I drove between 0 and 50km/h for less than 1km). I have a service appointment tomorrow with the dealer to get to the bottom of this and will update again afterwards.

Update from Oct 30, 2014: After taking the car back into the dealer I was informed they believed it was a faulty solenoid which was causing the issue. They ordered another, which took 5 days, and then discovered that did not resolve the issue. In addition, to my initial description of the issue, the car also shifts into 3rd gear and will not shift higher.

After the first diagnosis failed the dealer suggested that the problem may be with pressure in the transmission and that they were going to explore that. That was one week ago and I haven't heard anything since.

I will update again as the story unfolds.
