Wrangler Rubicon 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 19,850 miles

I have a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with 19,850 miles on it. While driving it on December 31, I smelled burning oil and saw an oil stain on my drive way. I looked under the Jeep and it looked like the oil was leaking from the rear of the motor under the main seal. There was no oil on my driveway on December 30. I take good care of the Jeep and change the oil when recommended. I took the Jeep to a shop recommended by our local Jeep dealership (because their shop was busy fixing Jeeps.)

The shop I took it to looked at the Jeep closely on a lift. They said it looked like there was a crack in the oil filter assembly. They also told me that this is a common problem with Jeeps. They showed me an oil filter assembly that was taken out of a jeep the previous day and replaced. They also pointed out another Jeep in front of the shop that was there to have the oil filter assembly replaced. I got a $1,350 estimate to replace the Oil Filter Assembly. My plan is to get it replaced soon.

The Jeep website said that this is not a recall because it does not place anyone in danger.

So, does JEEP wait until a leaking oil filter assembly causes a Jeep to freeze up and possibly hurt the driver and passengers? THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL A LONG TIME AGO. With no more warranty, it is money and time from me.

Wrangler Rubicon 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 109,000 miles

Years of issues with the oil filter assembly unit breaking or leaking, and yet no real fix for this problem. They stopped selling the unit and now I have a $26,000 used paperweight. I was nervous about buying American vehicles again and this kind of crap proves my thoughts were warranted. The Toyota’s I have owned would never go through this type of crap!
