Wrangler Unlimited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,100 miles

We bought the Jeep Wrangler Unlimted used in July 2021 with 50,624 miles for more money than I would of liked but our daughter was over the moon! We started having brake issues in August 2022 where the caliper broke and the front brakes needed to be done so we had them done, The issues of pulling, squealing and driving weird kicked up after that and the same caliper snapped again! We assumed it was a defective part and replaced it under warranty.

Our daughter headed off for college and comes back for winter break and yet again her jeep is having brake issues and this time it smells like it's on fire! I call our mechanic and he comes out and says the back brakes are shot. We are puzzled at this point bc they were fine just a few months prior, have those done. Welp April 5 2024 our daughter is home for spring break and it happens again and we ask our mechanic to re do the whole thing brake pads, rotors, brake lines, calipers, master cylinder and anything else he can think of because we are over it! That job was a pretty penny but wanted it over with! Yeah our daughter comes home for summer break and takes me out for Mother's day when the brake line collapsed due to a broken caliper again!

I call my mechanic who again fixes the line and caliper on May 21 2024 just to have it go down at 20 miles again. I head to the internet to see if we are missing a recall or something and find so so many complaints about this exact year make and model and nothing is being done. I saw one person discuss about calling Chrysler myself, so I called them and they wanted a certified jeep mechanic to look at it. I dropped the Jeep off May 31st and it's still there. They checked over and said it had nothing to do with the work my mechanic did so they cleaned out the lines and whatever else they could think of and said come get it! I actually let out a chuckle then asked how many miles they drove to be so confident and the mechanic replied 5 miles, I asked if he would go 15 more miles and then call me back. He did as I asked and he called me back baffled because it happened again to him! At that point he said he would open a star case to Chrysler who in return told him to have the entire system redone on my dime and they closed the case. The mechanics disagreed saying it would be a waste of time, parts and money would be refunded and they asked me to call them again.

I called them on June 25th and the case was escalated and an engineer was supposed to be sent out to see what was actually going on by June 28th they call me back saying they sent someone out and they won't pay to fix it and dropped the case again. I asked to speak to the engineer who went because I know for a fact no one came out and they said they would call me back and it's now July 8th, They refuse to speak with me or the dealership that has my defective Jeep. So yeah clearly they are allowed to continue to put defective vehicles on the road and nothing can be done about it. Having to send a Jeep with zero rust and in perfect condition to the scrap yard for $300 when I have paid $50k for it all because of a defective brake line is going to be heartbreaking.

Wrangler Unlimited 3.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 30,384 miles

Coming down a hill into town, started smelling hot brakes. Surprised to find out it was my Jeep. Right/rear hub was pretty hot. 30,000 miles seems really early to replace a caliper. Tech noted "sticking & piston won't push back all the way". Pads didn't need to be replaced yet. Of course it wasn't covered under the Jeep extended warranty.
