Cadenza Premium 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

As long as I can remember, this engine has had a noticeable rattle upon “dry” or “cold” startup. Typically after sitting for an hour or more, you can hear the timing chain rattle between 1 to 3 seconds until the hydraulic timing chain tensioner receives oil pressure. So far this hasn’t caused issues with performance of the engine, but does raise concern for the future of this engine.

It appears that Kia came out with a redesigned timing chain tensioner for this engine that can resolve this issue. But to have it replaced out of pocket can cost over 2,000 dollars.
