About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
After starting the vehicle and beginning to back out of a parking space, a loud pop was heard from the rear of the vehicle. Immediately, a "Check vehicle electrical system warning" appeared on the dashboard, followed by "Stop vehicle and check power supply". While attempting to drive to a safe location, a continuous warning began to sound along with a dashboard warning to stop immediately. The speed of the vehicle was limited which could have caused an accident when driving on public roads. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where it is waiting for diagnosis. During the tow, the vehicle was unable to move under its own power. The symptoms appear to represent a failure of Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) (NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V200000). There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

While driving my car on March 7th, 2024 around 2:30pm an error message popped up "Stop vehicle and check power supply" and speed of the car was noticeably limited. Thankfully I was able to pull to side of the road and called road side assistance as car was undrivable, the 12 volt battery was completely dead. When tow truck arrived, a jump park was required to put car into neutral in order to get onto tow truck. If this happened in a freeway this could be a risk if we are not able to stop at a safe location. Towing services was able to tow my car to the dealership about 15 minutes away, upon unloading vehicle onto lot, taking an Uber home as no loaners are available, asked the next day about getting car into diagnosis and was told that it would take 2 weeks to get in to be looked at, and now it sits until they are able to diagnose a known problem, even the sales manager at this dealership has had same issue on 3 different EV6's. He assured me they know what to look for when it comes to the issue. After doing some research this issue, it is a well known issue with Hyundai/Kia cars and it looks like the ICCU module needs to be replaced. And Hyundai/Kia EVs and was supposedly addressed in a recall done in late September of last year, yet I have gone back and made a complaint with Kia regarding this issue, but in their eyes it was fixed in the recall. This new issue now goes under same case number associated with the charging interrupted error, where charging stops after 10 mins, took to dealership had the update done and still same issue. Continued to have problems charging on level 2 charger, even at a lowered amps. Lowering the amount that is recommended by the manufacturer and still having the same issue. Thank You.

When driving at 35 mph on level ground, a loud "pop" was heard and the vehicle immediately lost power and warning messages having to do with the 12V system appeared on the instrument panel warning that the car needed to be pulled over in a safe spot and turned off. The vehicle was transported to a local KIA dealer via flatbed and has now been at the dealer for more than 30 day. So far, the 12V battery, the ICCU, the inverter and ICCU fuse have been replaced.

The car suddenly lost power and stalled to a max speed of 22mph. The car showed a check electrical system please stop vehicle. This is a known issue with the NHTSA. The car was towed to the nearest Kia dealer - Airport Kia in Naples FL.

The vehicle completely lost power while driving. My wife came down a dirt road hill, made a left onto [XXX] in Duxbury, VT, heard a "clunk" from below the car, and experienced total power loss. An error flashed on the screen that read "Critical Battery System" and then, soon after, "Stop Car Immediately." She was able to coast 1/4 mile (downhill) to a school parking lot. The car was towed to a dealership where the dealer replaced the inverter (ICCU) and the paperwork stated "DC/DC Converter input voltage sensor fault." The car had 25,896 miles on it when the incident occurred. The total power loss was extremely dangerous, and we were lucky it did not occur on a highway at a higher speed with more cars in proximity. I see online that NHSTA had previous reports of this issue both with the EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On 5 May 2023 our 2022 Kia EV6 WIND AWD Automatic vehicle (~11,200 miles on the odometer) was being driven under normal conditions at approximately 30 mph in city traffic when the car lost motive power and a dashboard alerts appeared stating "stop vehicle and check power supply" and "check electrical vehicle system." The driver complied but the shutdown occurred on a heavily trafficked road and put the driver and other travelers at risk and caused the driver considerable distress. The incident was reported to the dealer and manufacturer via the Kia Access app, and the car was towed to the nearest Kia dealer and service center on May 8. The dealer diagnosed the problem as caused by a defective ICCU (a part of the electrical powertrain control system) requiring replacement. As of 12 July 2023, Kia has not provided a replacement part and it remains on backorder with no ETA for arrival. We have not been contacted by Kia and to our knowledge no one has inspected the vehicle other than the dealer service technicians.

The contact owns a 2022 Kia EV6. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked on a hill, it rolled and crashed into a handicapped sign. The forward collision sensor became inoperable. While at the charging station utilizing the radio, the battery and collision warning indicator lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where they were unable to identify the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no additional assistance. While driving, an unknown vehicle crashed into the rear of the vehicle and a quarter panel. There was no reported injuries, fire, or police report. The vehicle was taken to another dealer (Kia of Irvine 45 Oldfield, Irvine, CA 92618, ) where the vehicle failed to start and it was diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The battery was replaced but the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 3,000.
