I bought the car in 2018 with only 3800 miles on it. Now at 27,000 miles I ended up replacing all 4 ignition coils. It started out just sputtering one day out of the blue about 2/3 weeks ago. Check engine light came on stayed on maybe 2 minutes, then went off. The car went back to running like normal. I started to notice if I drove a short distance it was fine but if I drove more then about 20-30 minutes then it would act up.
Check engine light finally came back on and stayed on. Had my mechanic scan it for code and it should “cylinder 4 misfireâ€. He replaced ignition coil on Friday 7/9 cost was (119.00). Then literally 2 days later that Sunday 7/11 started feeling sputtering again. By Tuesday 7/13 check engine light was back on and stayed on. Mechanic scanned for code this time it was “cylinder 1 misfireâ€. So just yesterday 7/19 I had him replace the last 3. Cost was (273.00). I just figured obviously they are all just gonna start misfiring and instead of having my car out of commission every damn week to just have him replace one at a time of just get them all replaced. I can see this is obviously a common problem.

This is not the first issue with this piece of junk car and it won't be the last! The car started lagging May of 2020 first and then started idling rough at stop lights. Then the next week it starts trying to die on me from stop to acceleration. I got the fuel system flushed and the transmission flushed trying to figure out what was wrong because the dealerships service center was scheduled out for weeks and they wouldn't be able to diagnose it. It is so frustrating when you can't get your car into the dealer service department for weeks when there is an issue. It's funny how cars don't understand that they need to schedule issues! I work out of town so this vehicle is my only way to work and it is always acting up. It has 99% freeway miles. When the car finally had a code come up it was full on dying on me. And of course the dealership couldn't get me in till the following week so I had to take it to the nearest mechanic so I could get to work. They had to get the coil pack from the dealership because coil packs aren't supposed to go out at 50k miles. $235.99 and two hours later they had it running. BRYANT'S AUTOMOTIVE was incredible. I regret being lured in by the lower price and 10 year 100k mile warranty. I should have bought a Honda or Toyota. There are so many issues with this car we no longer go on trips. It is completely unreliable. It's not even a year later and it is acting up again. I have to wait three weeks to get it diagnosed at the dealership service center for them to replace the remaining coil packs. I HATE THIS CAR and KIA!! DO NOT BUY A KIA!

Thank you all for sharing your experience with the 2017 Kia Fotre LX. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the engine. The feeling like it’s about to stall, very rough shaking when I’m idling, knocking, and another strange noise. Now I’ve done all I can to make any car happy: I’ve gotten oil changes every 5000km since I’ve gotten the vehicle using good grade oil, I use normal gas and I thought maybe that was the issue so I put some sea foam fuel injector cleaner through it, I just recently changed out the spark plugs to the premium NGK plugs, I get it under coated every year, and I just brought it to my mechanic and he ran a diagnostic on the car and weirdly enough no codes showed up. Yet the engine in this crapmobile persists on rough idling, slow acceleration, and the almost constant feeling that this thing will stop working. I can say it runs better than it did before putting the sea foam through it, but the idle is very rough (glad the mounts are intact) and then it will go almost stone still with the rpms falling fairly below 1000. Then when I go to accelerate it’s almost fighting me and won’t speed up the way I intend. I’m definitely putting way to much in this car and getting a pain in the ass in return. Would not deal with Kia or Hyundai again.
Update from Aug 11, 2020: Hello! So the check engine light finally came on (and stayed on) so I brought the car into the closest dealership to get a scan. The P030X code (3rd ignition coil) was read. They ordered the parts and they should be here by the end of the week. They also found another recall on the car which was a sealant around the tail lights to avoid water getting in. I did not pay a cent and was all under warranty because I’m not past the 5 years or over 100,000kms. I advise anyone with backfire and misfire issues and that are in the warranty just to bring it in and get it looked at. I didn’t pay anything and now I can hopefully drive in peace again. I’ll update again once the parts are installed.

This is the third ignition coil being replaced due to issues, for a total of five replacements. The other two had been replaced under a recall but still giving issues overall.

Engines loses power on acceleration. When you turn at red light, etc., engine fades as if it is going to stall...really have to push hard on pedal to keep going. Gas mileage is about 15 to 20 miles per gallon. The wind is load on the driver's side. The windshield wipers suck and the tires are mushy after only 13000 miles. The dealership said all of this is normal! Sucky car all the way around! Would never recommend it!
Update from Sep 3, 2018: Dealership still insists this is all normal. There is a rattle when I accelerate, sort of like the valves in an older vehicle would do if the grade of gas was wrong. Very annoying. The wind noise just keeps getting louder...they say it is the wind hitting/flowing over the mirrors! I say it is the seals around the windows. Would never recommend this vehicle to anyone.

Yup, another cylinder had the same issue (bad ignition coil). This time it was cylinder #1. Thankfully the dealership was quick to get it sorted out again. It's super annoying that it's the 2nd time it's happened and this car isn't even a year old yet. Two more cylinders to go, hopefully the ignition coils won't go on those.

While driving the car suddenly was idling, very rough and lacking power on the road. One of the ignition coils had failed so was running on 3 cylinders. Coil was replaced under warranty at the local dealership at no cost. Interesting thing was there was another person at the dealership with the same vehicle with the same problem on the same day. Definitely inconvenient to have the coil go at around 12k on a car that is less than a year old.

I thought I wouldn't be posting about this ever again yet here I am. I had 5 ignition coils replaced (all under warranty) and sure enough yesterday we got another cylinder misfire. Waiting on a quote since it's now under warranty. Hoping they'll have mercy on my car once more.
Update from Aug 8, 2022: UPDATE: Once more the ignition coil was replaced. Cost was approximately $280 CAD.
