Transmission broken, accelerating but not moving.
I was driving on a road trip of approximately 270 miles round trip. Along the route there were several long uphill and downhill sections, so I used cruise control for most of the drive. There were also strong winds pushing against the vehicle.
At one point, I noticed the car beginning to surge back and forth. The cruise control kept causing the transmission to repeatedly upshift and downshift, creating a constant rocking sensation instead of maintaining a steady speed.
Later, when I slowed down to refuel, the vehicle suddenly lost the ability to drive. It would shift into what felt like neutral, and pressing the accelerator only increased the engine RPM without moving the car.
After the vehicle was inspected, I was informed that the issue was caused by a transmission failure. The dealership also confirmed that the repair is covered under the 7-year powertrain warranty.
