2011 KIA Forte Koup RECALL RC191 HYDRAULIC ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT (HECU)
Recalls description Issue: On certain vehicles, the brake hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU) could short circuit.
Safety Risk: A short circuit ### could create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. ###
THE FIX:
Corrective Actions: Kia will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the fuse(s) for the HECU. (FREE OF CHARGE)
+++ Kia recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed.++++
So
1) They didn't want you to drive their car as it is, basically, a rolling timebomb. No offer of rental car compensation etc by KIA in the meantime.
2) Meanwhile, it took them 3 months to get the faulty ELECTRICAL part in and fixed
3) No sense of danger or urgency conveyed by KIA even after Govt of Canada sent out hazard warning about issue to owners too.
Yet again another chronic build quality electrical issue and now 3 months later my brakelights have just cut out - starting to see a pattern?
I have other beefs but basically, that 2011 model year does NOT age well especially the electrical systems on it.
I drive a car with no functioning stereo, no foglights, no main brakelights and it is not a LADA.
Hey now KIA is supposed to have exceeded Toyota for build quality, so good for them but, at the same time, the reason didn't buy a Toyota in 2011 (Too expensive) is why I now cannot afford a newer KIA. They are no longer the good deal they seemed back then. Until the next recall folks drive (if you can) safe.
