Niro Wind EV

  • Automatic transmission
  • 7,000 miles

My 2023 Kia Niro EV all of a sudden started having trouble charging on my Level 2 Charger. It started at around 7000 miles. I would get a notification on my phone on the Kia app saying charging was interrupted. The first time I noticed this, I took it to a different charger but that didn't solve the problem. It didn't take me long to realize that it won't charge on my level 2 at all. I've had no problem charging a Tesla, my friend's F150 Lightning or my neighbor's Mach-e on the same charger. I tried slowing down the AC charging speed by 60% from the vehicle's charge settings, but that only works when trickle charging with my standard 120V plug. Even if I was able to slow down the Level 2, that's not the solution. I'm stuck only being able to trickle (slow) charge it with my 120V charger for now.

Niro Wind

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,000 miles

At first, there was no problem charging our new Niro. After about 5 months, the car began to interrupt charging and send a text message saying "Charge interrupted". It has gotten really bad now to where we get 10 to 20 interruptions every time we charge. It seems to be that the charge port contacts on the car become oxidized and the oxidation causes resistance and the resistance causes heat and the car interrupts charging when the heat is sensed.

Apparently, Kia doesn't want to issue a recall, so they pretend the problem doesn't exist! It DOES exist, and there are many, many complaints on the Kia EV Forum. A class action lawsuit is in the works.
