Niro PHEV EX 1.6L 4 + 62 Kw Elec

  • Automatic transmission
  • 3,500 miles

We just leased this Niro and like the car very much except that the dual clutch transmission has malfunctioned seriously twice so far. The car shudders violently and makes loud noises. Afterward some of the upshifts have hesitation that could be problematic in traffic. Checking online turns out this has been a problem with some Kia DCT powertrains at least since 2017, as well as DCTs in other makes.

This is a serious safety concern since it's unpredictable. I have just started to engage with Kia dealer service so not sure yet how they will handle it, but regardless, having this happen to many owners/vehicles over at least 8 model years doesn't say anything good about Kia's decision-making process in providing a quality, trouble-free product to its customers.
