Kia engine compartment wiring harness was toasted from outside of insulation. As an old timer shade tree mechanic, I repaired the visual damage to the best of my ability (see photos). After replacing cam shaft sensors, crank shaft sensor, and associated toasted wiring - over a 100 hours of my time. The engine would turn over but not start (20 amp coil fuse would blow at first crank).

Then I threw in the towel on this new in frame rebuilt engine with only 5704 miles.

Quote : customer advises ignition coils and connectors replaced due to meltdown at connectors. Car cranks but won't start due to ignition coil 20a fuse blows when ignition is turned on. *performed basic circuit test and and found multiple wires shorted in the main engine harness.

I towed vehicle to the same Kia service department on 1 July. I'm thinking there was a recall or some practical reason for this calamity. Service rep denied warranty repair because I put my hands on it! So no loaner car or renal allowed. Advised the harness had to be completely replaced inside and outside the engine compartment, too many shorts. Estimate for harness $1,400, estimate for labor $7,000.
