Burns through oil in between oil changes; when you first push on the gas pedal, it makes a humming noise and barely moves. Now the check engine light is on. It is still in the shop for the third time - trying to find the best fix for it.

What a silly car. It does not like the cold. Every morning when it's below 40, the engine has the worst time. It'll start, but my whole car shakes and the engine revs like crazy! I've had to start pumping the accelerator while I turn it on to keep my car from feeling it's going to stale or die. Even once the engine get warm, it's still loud as can be. I can't really describe the sound, but it's annoying. This is the worst car I've ever bought.

The car makes a rattling and pinging noise when driven on the road under light to moderate acceleration when first driving. It occasionally occur while driving after it is warmed up under acceleration. The noise come from the head section of the engine. Could be the timing chain or a valve problem.

Seems like the 2013 Kia Rio Transmission computer is set to shift too early or the engine is not tuned to handle load under 1700 RPM in gears 2-6 without pinging. I've used Premium Gas for 3 tanks in a row and the sound still persists unless I use Auto Stick mode and wait until 2500 RPM before shifting to next gear. Once the engine reaches 1700 or more RPM very little to no pinging with normal driving engine load. Once engine hits 2200 RPM no pinging under the heaviest engine load.

My 2013 Kia Rio LX with 50,000 miles on it has been making rattling/pinking noises upon acceleration. It does not matter at what gear I am at. If I am going a steady speed and press down on the gas pedal, the noise will always happen. I pulled up a web page that said something about a faulty timing chain and guide being a problem for some Rios built in 2012 but my manufacture date is not within those parameters. http://www.leftlanenews.com/kia-replacing-handful-of-defective-2013-rio-engines.html.
I brought my car to the dealership 09/22/15 and they pulled code# P0326 Knock sensor. They did an ecm reprogram and it seemed to make the noise considerably quieter but it is still there. I have an appointment 09/28/15 to do a road test with a mechanic so we'll see what happens. We are wondering if it has something to do with the timing chain but that is only speculation.

My Rio has had a Weird Engine Noise since I have owned it. I have taken it in and was told was vents on the car. I have noticed the noise gets louder when ECO mode is on. I now have 36,700 miles on the car and the dam noise is still present and louder than it used to be. I wonder if it is the Timing Belt or some other internal engine Component.
This problem Only happens on acceleration of the Vehicle in ECO and Normal Driving.

For 4 years our engine would making a clicking/ rattling noise. This noise occurred when hitting the accelerator, and more so if going uphill. It would not occur if the engine was in park etc. Unfortunately, this was some piston or valve rattling around getting damaged/ and something to do with the valves/ combustion timing.
After much research online and finding the right Kia dealership the solution was found - ECM module upgrade and ensuring there was enough oil in the engine (somehow our oil was low/ burning). I think the ECM upgrade essentially fixed the problem. Get this done sooner than later, the more you delay it, the more your engine will get damaged!
TLDR: 2013 KIA RIO ENGINE NOISE/ rattle when accelerating? >> SOLUTION: ECM UPGRADE FROM DEALERSHIP (cost me just $150).
