We were notified of a dangerous part failure. In early April. So far we have heard no more from Kia the manufacturer & the dealer knows nothing. We need our vehicle. It's our only vehicle. We need to park it outside away from other vehicles as it can burst into flames. We need this fixed now.

On Friday, April 17th, 2020, [xxx] received the safety recall interim notice for his 2006 Kia Sedona stating that the engine is at risk for fire when vehicle is off. The letter states to park the vehicle until repaired and says that the risk of fire is due to moisture in an electrical system of the engine that can short out even when the vehicle is shut off. We have pleaded with Kia findlay and the Kia consumer center to at least check for moisture in the unit of concern, but were turned away. We also requested a loaner vehicle in the interim and again, they refused and said they cannot help unless the engine catches fire. We are afraid to have the vehicle here and would like a loaner until it's repaired, rather than risk a catastrophe. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

Received a recall notice from Kia dated 4/8/20 stating hydraulic electronic control unit, which controls ESC, tsc and anti-lock brake system, remains energized when vehicle is turned off and an electrical short circuit increases the risk of engine compartment fire even when car is turned off. The parts are not currently available to fix this. In the meantime, I am to park my vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles and structures. I called my local Kia dealership to inquire if they knew when the repair would be available and they did not even know of its existence. The service department said Kia blows things out of proportion and scares people and they have no idea when and if the repair parts will be in. This is an unacceptable response. Kia needs to communicate with the dealerships about this problem and they need to fix it as soon as possible to avoid injury to consumers. I am left with a van that has the risk of catching on fire. I do not know if it is only when the vehicle is turned off or I am at risk when I am driving the van. Due to being laid off from the current covid 19 crisis, I am not in a position to buy or rent a new car. Also, there is no place to park my car in my home where it is not near another vehicle or structure. I also tried calling Kia's consumer assistance center, but the number listed on the letter connects me with roadside assistance and there is no connection for recall information.

The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. The contact stated that the ESC warning indicator flashed, the vehicle failed to shift in and out of gear, and the brake lights frequently failed to turn off. The manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a manufacturer recall, and provided no solution other than taking the vehicle to the dealer (university Kia, 6519 university dr nw, huntsville, al 35806, (256) 217-1700) for diagnostic testing and repair. The contact was to order the part and determine who may repair the vehicle. The failure mileage was not available.

In march2016 brakes replace with new pads/rotor due to screech sound. Today when brake pressed steering wheel vibrates. ABS/ESC off light came on the other day. Front wheels still vibrate on the highway. Transmission sometimes jerks and stalls the car. A/C not work, but heater always working.

My ESC light and ABS light came on as I was pulling out of the movie theater and my vehicle immediately turned off so I restarted it and pulled out onto the highway where it turned off again and wouldn't restart for 15-20 minutes once I got it restarted my engine started making a weird sound and I could not accelerate it kept jerking like I was running out of gas when I had a full tank luckily I made it home with my 3 kids before it shut off again. Not safe at all.

I had issues putting in park and then getting out of park. Disconnected battery cable to turn off vehicle. Battery seemed dead but had battery checked out it's fully good. Now my ABS, battery, brake, ESC lights all came on and vehicle has no power. Seems like it could be brake-tramission shift interlock problems?

Car randomly will not start, problem has been occurring for several years. Let car sit for 15 or so minutes and will start, battery fine and has been replaced. Took to Kia motors and could not detect problem. Recently took to a local mechanic who was able to detect a problem (after investigating Kia website) with the intermittent crank. The service bulletin states that this is problem in 2006 and 2007 Sedona. I have a copy of the bulletin in my possession. The mechanic did not replace the part but he removed, cleaned it and reinstalled. I have not had a problem (has only been one day) but will see how if runs. My concern is that this issue should have been a recall issue and covered by Kia. I had to pay for a rental and for the service of the vehicle. It has been a hardship for me. The car has not been dependable or safe. Can you help me 1. request a refund on my expenses and 2. get this part replaced as a recall item? thank you

I was leaving my house and had just driven a short distance when the check engine light and the ESC off came on as the car slowed to almost a stop. I pressed on the accelerator and nothing happened. I got out of the car and raised the hood and the engine was idling roughly. I turned the car off and on several times but nothing chaged; it wouldn't accelerate and the warning lights stayed on. The ESC off light eventually went out and the check engine light stayed on but I was able to drive it again. I took it to a mechanic who lubricated a throttle cable after checking the codes. It worked for a few weeks after that but the ESC off light came on again intermittently after that. I am afraid of losing power when I am in heavy traffic, at an intersection, merging, or anywhere I will be in danger if I cannot move out of the way of oncoming traffic.

We bought this Kia Sedona from a dealer and from the time we bought it always had some starting problem. So when we took to the dealer they said it is the battery and replaced the battery and again the same problem and then they said to replace the battery connecting parts as they are not connecting right. Then had some fuse problems and had to replace some fuse and the ac was down replaced the ac. Again battery problem and not starting. The dealer said to replace a new battery and we said it is a new one, but told to put a Kia battery and replaced it, after few days again car slow downed the speed while driving and stopped middle of the road. Had to tow to the dealer. They said it is the starter motor and replaced it. After a year, same problem - car was not starting and then finally they said it is the fuse box and had to replace the whole fuse box as it was not working right. I have two children and this is not safe to drive if it slows downs or stop while driving. I would appreciate if someone can check into it and as there will be more people like me having this problem. We have a Mazda but we have spend way more money and our time on this Kia as it brake downs a lot.

Kia Sedona 2006 - engine stalled on highway, no response from the accelerator - the "check engine" light came on as well as the 'ESC off' light. This can happen when driving in city or highway... extremely dangerous! pulled-over, turned off engine then restarted to correct the problem. Dealer states tps (throttle position sensor) and/or accelerator position sensor malfuctioning.

I own a 2006 Kia Sedona LX, purchased new from the dealer. Fall of 2010 we began having problems with the ESC light off / check engine lights turning on. Once that happens you can't accelerate, even when you push the gas pedal down it does not work. When this happens you have to shut the car off, restart and pray it wont happen again. We took it to a Kia dealer, they replaced a brake sensor light, which they said can cause the ESC light to malfunction. It worked for a couple of months but now the problem is back, and worse than ever. The van loses the ability to accelerate without warning, on the highway, right after starting the car, ..etc. We have four children and the van is just not safe.

ESC (electronic stability control) light comes on 2006 Kia Sedona and causes a sudden lack of throttle response creating a potentially very serious situation while driving. Car won't respond to gas pedal because tcs has intervened and believes there is wheel spin, even though there isn't. Kia-forum.com is loaded with reports of near crashes because of that problem.

Received recall notice, called to have part replaced and shop manager said he ordered parts but didn't know when or if they would come in, recall notice says we may be at risk for crash. This vehicle has had a lot of recalls plus cant keep brakes or rotors on it. Definatly a lemon. Will try to persuade anyone not to buy a Kia.

The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. While driving 75 mph, the ESC indicator illuminated and the accelerator failed on the vehicle. The contact attempted to pull over and the vehicle decelerated. He turned off the vehicle and restarted it, but the failure recurred after driving one mile. The dealer stated that they would inspect the vehicle and reset the ESC computer under warranty. The vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure persists. The contact believes this is a big safety hazard. The failure mileage was 39,000 and current mileage was 48,000. Updated 4/16/09 updated 04/21/09.
