Sedona

  • 134,000 miles
The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. The contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. After two hours of operating the vehicle, an abnormal fuel odor was present. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the technician stated that the vehicle's inserts were fractured and the control arm needed to be replaced. The cabin filter was replaced, but the fuel odor was still present. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16V387000 (suspension); however, the dealer refused to perform the repair due to the vehicle not being in one of the states affected by the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 134,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Sedona 6-cyl

This happened twice. As I attempted to pull out of a parking space, my car would only go 5mph. I had no gas feed. It was diagnosed as the throttle body and was fixed under warranty the first time. I was told by the dealer at the time that this was a problem for my vehicle. In fact, he was helping another owner with the very same problem when I came in. The second time was Dec 2013. The same thing happened. This time it was out of warranty (87,000 M) and I had it cleaned at my expense. It has worked since then. I am now at 97,000M. I am expecting it will happen again someday.

Sedona 6-cyl

  • 500 miles
When refueling the vehicle, the gas almost always spurts out of the gas cap opening. This happens whether I let the nozzle on auto fill or if I manually hold the gas nozzle. It happens if the gas flow is slow or fast. I have met others with the same type vehicle with the same problem, but no one has bothered to report it. The gas has spurted out on my hand, my gloves, my clothes, and my shoes. I have learned to stand slightly back and it then spills over the side of my car and onto the ground. I have several pictures.

Driving approx 35 mph when Kia van lost power and had to coast to side of road. No forward movement with gas pedal pressed down. Sat for 10 minutes and was able to drive at normal speed for about 30 minutes when I slowed down to turn corner, lost power again. Coasted to side of road, sat for another 10/15 minutes then drove to auto mechanic. Replaced throttle position sensor for 2nd time. Vehicle computer also reset. Serious safety risk as vehicle loses power in middle of traffic without warning and very limited time to make decision where to coast to as you do not have any driving control.

Over the past year, I have replaced struts, bushings, cv boots, & countless other items on suspension. I have had Sedona looked @ by multiple mechanics. Have driven around w/ me on both occasions. Had three ase certified guys at one time checking everywhere for lose or broken parts. We even checked spare tire & the pressure in it. When I go over any uneven surface, something rattles or clunks under the van. Not a little, a lot! everyone can actually feel it, not just hear it. Cannot pin point location.it seems mostly around spare tire area, but I feel it under driver & passenger area too. Middle & back can feel & hear it. You cannot make it happen over things like speed bumps. Just uneven surfaces. Random.. so embarrassing & making me crazy! I also have had on 5 or 6 occasions when driving, I will take foot off gas as cars slow or exiting up a hwy ramp. When I push to excel, it wont catch but the engine rpms go crazy & engine races. I have to try to let off & reapply foot to gas to get it to grab. I almost got rearended twice! it happens fast, suddenly & far in between. Scares me to death. It is like the transmission is slipping, but had at dealership long ago for this & just like the other stuff, if they cannot make it happen... sorry, out of luck! I now am just under the 100K mark & still cannot get resolve. Cannot sell a clunking car!
