The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. The contact stated that while making a turn, a popping noise occurred coming from the rack and pinion steering. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the rack & pinion steering needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired with a new rack & pinion however, the failure recurred. The technician informed the contact that there was a problem with the rack and pinion. The technician informed the contact that a Kia dealer rack & pinion was tested and failed, and was unable to correct the failure. The contact mentioned that six months ago, when the vehicle was purchased, the rack and pinion was replaced. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000. The VIN was not available.

The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. Immediately after the contact exited the vehicle, the doors and the steering wheel locked automatically and the alarm system sounded without warning. Whenever the contact drove over 55 mph, the steering locked. Each time the failure occurred, the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and then restarted. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The dealer did not test drive the vehicle to see if the failure could be duplicated. The failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they had never heard of such a failure. The failure was not remedied. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16V389000 (latches/locks/linkages). The failure mileage was 125,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I was driving the vehicle at approximately 35 mph. All of a sudden I heard a loud thud. The wheel jerked violently to the left and my vehicle began careening left toward the side of the road. I immediately began braking. I was able to stop the vehicle and exit safely. Upon inspection of the vehicle, I noticed that the front wheels were pointing in slightly different directions, and the front left wheel was moved significantly back in its well toward the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection of the suspension components, it was immediately clear that the front left lower control arm broke while the vehicle was in motion. There has been a recall (campaign number 13V550000) on the lca for this vehicle, located in Michigan, and the recall was performed by a dealership. This failure was after the recall had already been performed. Apparently this lca didn't meet the criteria for replacement, and was "rustproofed" instead. The rustproofing did not prevent this lca from failure. The vehicle has less than 104,000 miles. Had I been traveling faster, or had there been an oncoming car, the outcome could have been significantly worse or even fatal. I did receive a mild injury to my right wrist when the wheel jerked violently. The tendon is hyper-extended and requires that I wear a wrist brace.

In March 2014 we received a recall notice Kia recall #SC100. This was concerning the lower front control arms being subject to rust and failure for northern vehicles. The vehicle was taken to paramount Kia, hickory nc. According to Kia the control arms were inspected and found to be in satisfactory condition. Approximately two months later the front passenger side control arm broke in two. I had the vehicle towed the a local garage and the arm was changed out with a used like new control arm. On Friday August 14th 2015 the drivers side control arm broke into. I called Kia and was told that because it was inspected in March 2014 and nothing was done then that there was noting that could be done now. Needing the vehicle for transportation elected to have it towed to the garage that fixed it the last time to get it fixed again. Kia is aware of the problem with these control arms however has elected not to do anything with the ones on my vehicle. I do feel that I should be reimbursed for the cost of having the vehicle towed twice and the cost of parts and labor to have the arms replaced. I complaint has been filed with Kia also.

After parking vehicle, went to exit and could not remove ignition key. Key turned off vehicle but would only go as far accs, which means while motor was not running, power was still on. Made sure dash indicator was in park, yet could not remove key. Spoke to a locksmith and added lube to around ignition key without any results. Left inside semi-heated garage overnight in case of frozen components without results. While dash indicator seemed to show proper gear selections, while in park, key could not removed, steering wheel would not lock, and vehicle could be moved forward and backward by manual pushing, in the meantime it was using up the battery. Kia dealership determined "shifter assembly failure", and after $600+ and 6 days for the special ordered part, vehicle was returned, but the failed part was returned to the supplier for a core charge. So if vehicle was parked in a parking lot and ignition key cannot be removed the car could be stolen, if parked on an incline car could roll away because it's truly not in park, and or your battery is dead. There was prior warning of any failure and owned since new.

My vehicle shakes badly...Kia, where I purchase my 2006 told me, it is the sub frame which causes my van to shake. The salt in Pennsylvania causes the frame of this van to rust away. I well not be able to drive it! there is no recall...this will cost me $2,000. I believe if you live... where it snows. The vehicles should be made for states which have snow.....and use salt on the roads. Why should I have to paid for this. The sub frame needs to be recall by Kia manufacturer.the mileage on my van is 63,553. Also, Kia stated that it will not pass inspection. There was a recall on lower control arms. They fixed that, but still it shakes. It's the sub frame.guest what! they inspected my van on Jan 8, 2014, . Kia, passed my van for good condition and my van was inspected after they corrected the control arms. Again, it still shakes....it is the sub frame. How did Kia pass the van for inspection. "the sub frame is still rotten". so, are they waiting for a accident to happen or someone is killed. Kia you need a recall on sub frame!

Was driving normally and suddenly left front wheel started skidding as it felt like it was turned in a direction that opposed the other front tire direction. Vehicle quickly became unstearable. Left lower control arm was found to be totally rust weakened with large rust holes and cracks.....and after part was removed by a mechanic, I could easily bend the whole control arm in half with very little effort. If this sudden failure had occurred moments earlier with my kids on the way to school and on the highway....this could have been a much worse result. As a result, I also had to replace both front tires, certain parts connecting to this control arm and had to have the vehicle realigned. The opposite control arm on the right side seems to look 'normal' with no apparent rust weakening. It seems as though the intact side has a type of coating that is intact and the failed side is missing much/most of the coating.

As my wife was making a right-hand turn into a parking lot at approximately 5-10 mph, the van lurched left and shook violently. After checking for flat tires and finding none, she attempted to continue driving but the steering wheel was shaking to much to drive any further. After having the van towed to the service center and checked out, we were told that the left front control arm had rusted through and failed. I cringe at the thought of what could have happened at highway speed, as we were supposed to has been on the interstate at that time, but changed our plans at the last minute. This van had its annual nh state safety inspection at the beginning of August and was given a clean bill of health. The shop that did the inspection and the shop that is doing the repair both told us that unless they actually see a crack, there is no way for them to tell if the part is compromised or not. As someone who has been working with metal for 30 years, I find this hard to believe. Lastly, I have noted six complaints reported here for the same problem in just the last seven months. It is my opinion that it is time for a thorough investigation and recall before there is a serious or (heaven forbid) fatal accident resulting from a control arm failure.

I notice noise and a shake in the steering wheel like I had a flat tire. I pulled over checked for a flat tire or loose wheel. Tires and wheels checked ok. As I continued the noise became worse and the car started weaving side to side and I started hearing a rubbing noise when I stopped. Pulled into the dealership for evaluation. The manager notice the left front wheel go back against the wheel well. Checked under the car and notice the left lower control arm broke in half. The control arm had rusted to the point that it just fell apart. Working for General Motors for 37 years has a problem solver and quality engineer I have never seem a control arm rust and break. I do believe as time goes on there will be many more failures and fatalities. This problem needs to be address before we get to the point of people dyeing. Kia is aware of this problem hopefully I will here some corrective action on this problem soon. I have the old parts.

The contact owns a 2006 Kia Sedona. Upon starting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the headlights and turn signals were inoperative. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the headlights were replaced. The failure continued approximately 15 times. After each failure, the contact either replaced the lights herself or had them replaced at a local repair shop. The contact also began to hear scraping noises whenever she applied the brakes. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the brakes were replaced twice. The contact also stated that the steering wheel shook while she was driving approximately 65 mph. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000 and the current mileage was 56,453.

My 2006 Kia Sedona continues to have shaking in the front wheels. This car has been in and out the dealerships throughout the ownership of this vehicle. The latest problem is a humming noise coming from the fuel tank. The dealer has stated that in his opinion it is a design defect. I contacted Kia and they are saying normal wear and tear. How is something like a fuel line that is inside of a fuel tank "normal" wear and tear" normal wear and tear would apply to brakes and other such things. Consumers don't just go to the local auto repair place to have a fuel line making noise fixed on a routine basis. This car was reported under the va. Lemon law process in 2007. Of course, Kia being the big guy in this won. Yet, still today the same conditions exist and more. The bottom line is that I am paying for a service and Kia has failed as far as I am concerned. Some of the other problems include: 1. sliding doors stick 2. drivers side door only locks on occasion with remote 3. the horn is terrible 4. lumbar support on drivers seat just broke one day while driving 5. tensioners for timing belt changed shortly after purchasing vehicle 6. fuel tank is making noise" humming 7. steering shakes at high speeds and so on......we (my family) do not feel safe in what was being sold as the safest minivan on the market at the time of purchase! Headlamps blowing out we have had to replace the headlamps about every 4-6 weeks and have taken it to the dealer 4 times on the head light problem and they say there is nothing wrong. So why do they keep blowing out. We have had both low beams blow out at the same time and have had to drive with the high beams which is unsafe to on coming traffic let along unsafe for us not to have any low beams. The second problem is a steering wheel vibration that we have has been a problem since we purchased the van. The dealer had it for the 1st month we owned it and still have the problem to this day and we are really feeling unsafe driving it due to the vibration at highway speeds. My wife is terrified to even take it on the highway with our three precious children. So if I could get some feedback on these issues I would greatly appreciate it. After doing some internet research there are alot of the same problems other people are having. I am writing this complaint so someone does not have to die due to headlights blowing out, or the steering falls apart or a part fails due to the vibration.

The 2006 Kia Sedona pulled to the left since the day I bought it. The front end has been aligned numerous times and two different Kia dealerships insisted that crowning" of roads in my area was causing this. Funny how no other vehicle I've ever had has ever pulled to the left on the very same roads. I have been told by the two Kia dealerships that all vehicles "drift" or "veer" to the left when you let go of the steering wheel. Again, this has not been a problem with any other vehicle I've owned in the last 20+ years. My van can now be considered a lemon because it has been to the shop five times. There was also a loud "bumping" noise in the front end when steering sharply to the right and downward. No service personnel at either dealership could cause the noise so, to them it did not exist. They refused to ride with me so I could demonstrate but then finally they did and they heard it! on service trip number five, they replaced bushings on the front end and the noise is gone. This vehicle still "drifts" or "pulls" or "veers" or "meanders" to the left when you turn loose of the wheel. Getting someone to agree with that is an uphill battle that I have not yet won.
