Here's the deal about the Sorento's as far as I can see. They are a great vehicle up until 130,000+, then they turn into the blues mobile (stop and it just explodes!). Driving home tonight, it had 4, yes 4 warning light on. The air bag, the check engine, the windshield washer fluid and the 4x4 low light (like I had it in 4wd low... at 60 mph. Here are all the problems that I've had:
Engine light: This is a crankshaft sensor, or camshaft sensor or transmission sensor going out, the repair shop said they all showed up when he plugged it into the computer. The crankshaft sensor will cause it to not start, just crank over, and also can randomly just quit running while you're going down the road. Cost to fix: $1,100 approx, and you'll want to change the timing belt and water pump while you're in there, for another $600.
Windshield Washer light: This is a leak, no idea where it is but it's annoying as hell. Just never had it fixed.
Air Bag light: This is connected to the steering wheel, and also what ever is going on, it also causes the cruise control and radio controls to not work anymore. I was told it will cost about $300-$400 to have this fixed. Oh, and the horn doesn't work either.
4x4 low trans. light: I think this is connected to the sensor problem that came up when we plugged it into the computer. They said it would also shift hard, and yes, it does. When the sensors quit, the car stops, that's how the car operates.
Dome lights: They are blinking radically, and if you hit the dash just right above the light switch, they go out temporarily, but come back and blink on and off randomly. VERY annoying. Took the bubs out. Mechanic scratched his head on this one.
Gas gauge: It will occasionally go to empty when you get close to 1/4 tank.
Head lights: They go out quite a bit, I've changed so many, I keep 2 spares in the car, since I was driving a couple years ago, and both lights went out.
Gas mileage: Well, I could drive a Suburban and get better mileage. Really.
Lighter sockets: Didn't work when I bought the vehicle, got them fixed at Car toys for $100.
But, it's gotten me where I needed to go for several miles, (about 75,000) and it is a real shame everything is going to hell at once.
