Our 2007 KIA Sorento has been a very very dependable and efficient vehicle, for the price one would be hard pressed to beat it. With the V6 it has super pep and really gets up when you need it. The number of positives totally outweigh the negatives, although it seems the couple of negatives we experienced have so much impact weight attributed to them that it negates the warm fuzzies of the positives. One in particular has compelled me to comment here at this site.
The issue is a hesitation when throttling. I thought it might be the fuel filter but after a few trips to the dealership of JP Thibodeaux in New Iberia, LA, its been diagnosed to be a leaky OCV (oil control valve) which meters the oil served to the CVVT (constant variable valve timing) unit, which either advances or retards the camshaft from it's resting position. First and foremost issue is the $1500 they want to to remedy the issue. itemized as thus:
1. check engine light.......$418.83
2. oil control valve.........$877.08
watch for it.....watch for it........did you notice...this does not include the CVVT.
I'm not sure if I'm turning into my grandfather or if prices for this type of thing borderlines or exceeds realistic decency and fairness.
