My car had been stalling ALOT, having trouble starting, rough idle, would die on me, had a ticking noise, and one day I was driving, it went into limp mode so I pulled over and turned off my car. I tried to restart it and when I did there was a really loud ticking, so I turned it off and popped the hood, I checked my oil, it was good and full, so I got back in my car, restarted it and attempted to drive it to a side road that was about 30 yards away to get it off the highway. The ticking noise was even louder and I had basically no power, the car would barely move, I only traveled about 10 yards, if that, so I once again stopped the car and turned it off. I immediately tried to restart the car, and it cranked over and started then immediately died. I popped my hood again and went to take another look and that's when I saw the oil splattered all over the engine compartment and oil pouting from the lower part of the engine. I tried to see where it came from but being that I was on the highway and there was oil everywhere, I didn't get a great look. I still had plenty of oil in the motor when I checked my dip stick. There was no water in my oil and no oil in my water. I put the car in neutral And proceeded to push the car off the highway by myself about 40 yards to the side road while wearing flip flops and called my boyfriend to ask him to leave work to pick me up because I was basically in the middle of no where, the closest store was about 10-15 miles away. He came to get me and he got under the car to try to take a look, that's when he saw a piece of metal sitting on top of my arm on the passenger side of my car. It appeared to be a piece broken off the motor or oil pump, still not sure yet because we still have to clean it up and take a better look, but regardless, it for sure came off my car.

The oil seems to only leak out when I try to start it, it cranks, starts and dies immediately each time. My ex husband took a quick look at it, he also had trouble seeing where the oil is coming from he also couldn't see where the metal broke off from, but he only looked at it when it was dark, so he told me to try to clean it up and he will take another look when it's daytime. Today I will be attempting to get under the car to get it cleaned up the best I can. My boyfriend is a certified marine/boat motor technician and my ex husband has been a back yard mechanic for over 30 years and has been working on hot rods and everything in between his whole life basically and has rebuilt many cars and trucks, and both guys believe that my motor is most likely blown and will need to be replaced. I have no idea how I am going to be able to afford this right now. I got the Sorento after a tow truck that was hauling my Kia Soul ran a stop sign and wrecked into a bunch of trees while towing my car behind it, totaling my Kia Soul, their insurance company would only give me $4000 to replace my car that I had bought brand new with zero miles on it and that I had just paid off like literally that same month, I hadn't even received my title from the bank that financed it yet. I loved my Kia Soul, but didn't want something with more room, so when I found the Sorento in my very low price range at a dealership about 3-4 hours away, I jumped on it and drove up there to buy it. I loved the car, it did have some small issues that I had assumed was due to being previously owned by someone that doesn't know that there is more to car maintenance than just oil changes and brakes. When I got it home, we cleaned the Throttle Body, Changed spark plugs, oil change, fluids topped up, the full work up, complete tune up.

It ran great and once I got divorced and began dating my current boyfriend. I ended up moving to his town in the same county, but I didn't have to drive my car much. Everyone drives golf carts around town because it's a small beach town and my boyfriend has a new jeep, so I rarely had to drive my car. We ended up moving back to the town my parents live in the same county and I began driving my car more often, and that's when the problems began, I was having throttle body issues again, had codes for my throttle positioning sensor and crankshaft positioning sensor, but was able to fix those codes with another tune up and replacing the valve cover gasket and spark plugs, and after the first 48 hours of having those replaced and having no more codes popping up, my car broke down on me and most likely has a blown motor. I also had problems with the door handles breaking off, and other annoying issues, but nothing major like this.

We were given $100 for the car and shown the door. They actually wanted us to use that $100 to buy a new Kia. Lesson learned. Never buy a Korean Car.

DISAPPOINTMENT CUSTOMER. I THOUGHT I WAS MAKING A SMART CHOICE WHEN I BOUGHT MY USED 2011 KIA SORRENTO (LIBERTY FORD) BOY WAS I WRONG. THE REASON FOR THE PURCHASE I NEEDED A RELIABLE CAR AS I DRIVE 500 MILES A WEEK FROM HOME TO WORK AND WITH KIA HAVING A 10 YEAR 100K MILE WARRANTY AND THE CAR ONLY HAVING 70K MILES ON WAS TO ME AT THE TIME A NO BRAINER. I HAD THE CAR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND THE ENGINE WENT. I DID PURCHASE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM LIBERTY BUT BECAUSE IT WAS A KIA THEY COULD NOT WORK ON IT AND SENT IT TO BEDFORD KIA FOR INSPECTION. AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS AND EVEN AN IN-PERSON VISIT, THEY HAD MY CAR FOR 52 DAYS BEFORE IT WAS FIXED AND RETURNED TO ME. THEY PUT IN A NEW/USED ENGINE THAT HAD AT THE TIME 65K MILES ON IT SO I THOUGHT ONCE AGAIN I WAS IN GOOD SHAPE, WELL I WAS WRONG AGAIN. THIS ENGINE LASTED 11 MONTHS AND 22K MILES AND BECAUSE I WAS OVER THE MILES, I WAS TOLD IN NOT SO MANY WORDS SUCKS TO BE YOU RIGHT NOW YOU WILL HAVE TO FOOT THIS BILL. I ALSO WANT TO NOTE THIS ENGINE QUIT ON ME AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR AN ACCIDENT THAT WAS ON THE FREEWAY I WAS GOING ABOUT 60MPH AT THE TIME TAPPED THE BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN AND THE ENGINE QUIT, I HAD TO LIMP THE CAR FROM THE HIGH SPEED LANE TO THE BERM WITH NO POWER IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AT THE TIME.

I AM JUST TRYING TO UNDERSTAND AS A CUSTOMER THAT HAD 2 BAD ENGINES WHERE THE ACCOUNTABILITY AS A MANUFACTURER IS? I DO UNDERSTAND WARRANTIES BUT ALL I WAS LOOKING FOR WAS SOMEONE TO SAY WE UNDERSTAND AND GIVE ME SOME KIND OF HELP. I WASN’T LOOKING FOR KIA TO PAY THE ENTIRE BILL BUT 2 ENGINE FAILURES ENGINES THAT ONLY MADE IT TO AROUND 80K THAT WERE NOT MY FAULT SOME HELP WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE. ALL TOLL RIGHT NOW I HAVE AROUND $6.200 INVESTED BACK IN A CAR I ONLY PAID $7,400 FOR.

WITH ALL THIS BEING SAID I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MY MECHANIC AT DONE RITE AUTO WHO TREATED ME AS A PERSON FIRST AND A CUSTOMER SECOND BY CUTTING HIS PRICE ON LABOR AND PARTS AND HAD THE CAR FIXED IN 3 DAYS AS APPOSED TO THE 52 IT TOOK KIA TO FIX IT.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO REACH ME I KNOW THIS WON’T HAPPEN THOUGHT I WOULD ADD THIS.

The last time I spoke with the dealership was in November and I was told they were getting together my service docs for Kia for the open file on vehicle issues. I was told by the dealer Kia is paying for a vehicle for me to drive and they would let me know once they know what Kia is going to do about the engine issue. I am still driving the vehicle Kia has leased for me, (picked up 10/27/18) and although I have tried to contact Kia they don't call me back. I still have not heard back from the dealership. I continue to drive the vehicle Kia is paying for and still have no idea what is going to be done.

My vehicle should have been included in the engine recall.

WHY HAS KIA NOT RECALLED THE 2011 SORENTOS WHEN THEY ARE AWARE THERE IS AN ISSUE?? WHY IS NO ONE DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS???!!! I THINK IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT KIA IS FORCED TO DEAL WITH THE ENTIRE PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES!!

While driving my 2011 Sorento, the check engine light came on (as we all know this often happens for non-critical things). The vehicle was running OK, the gauges were normal, so I continued to drive. After a few miles the temp gauge dropped all the way to cold, the vehicle was still running normal. I turned the heater on full hot setting and got cold air, so I thought the problem (check engine, light) was likely a sensor issue. I continued driving since the vehicle was running OK, I didn't smell anything, and the rest of the gauges were still normal. Suddenly the engine stalled and would not restart. I quickly shifted into N and coasted of the shoulder. I opened the hood and saw that the coolant reservoir was empty, yet the engine didn't seem excessively hot or smell hot. I checked the oil and it was normal and looked clean. The vehicle would not start again.

I had it towed to my mechanic shop and the inspection showed that a section on the bottom of the radiator had blown out and naturally all the coolant too. The shop replaced the radiator, thermostat, hoses, and all related parts. Just a little jogging and it started right up, BUT it was immediately obvious that the engine was seriously damaged... now running rough, coolant leaking out from the head gasket and exhaust putting out lots of steam. At this point we're not sure if the bottom end is hurt or just the head. I called Kia and they told me, since I bought this vehicle used (not certified) the engine/drivetrain 10/100k warranty does not transfer. When I complained that this sort of catastrophic engine failure with no real obvious warning should not happen at 63K miles, they asked if the engine light didn't begin to flash (which means a serious problem, turn off immediately)? I stressed that NO it never flashed on and off, just stayed on. Bottom line, Kia Customer Care don't GAS! They said there was nothing they would do to help with any repair. I called my local Kia dealer, and got the same "sorry charlie" from them.

Doing some research I learned that not that long ago Kia/Hyundai replaced over 1 million engines for a problem that was causing engine failures, many with circumstances just before the failure being very similar to what I experienced. One of the two engines involved is the very engine I have in my Sorento (2.4L GDI) which debuted in 2011. But even though my vehicle is a 2011 Sorento with a 2.4L GDI, Kia is insisting that the Sorento was not affected until the 2012 models... ?!!!

I also found that there was a Class Action lawsuit, but it seems that it has been settled and closed... ? Probably won't help, but I'm going to contact the law firm tomorrow.

Engine died. Kia dealer concluded it likely was crank shaft bearing(s) that failed. The only fix offered was to obtain a used (60,000 miles).4L DOC Theta-II engine from a 3rd party for $4,900 and install it ($6,650 including labor), as Kia no longer sourced this engine.

Daughter was returning home in her Kia and while stopped a drunk plows into the rear. No injuries, but the back is damaged and it's belching smoke now and the tranny is jerking when it shifts between 40-60 mph.

We drive it to Spradley Kia in Pueblo and ask for to have the body checked, tranny checked, smoking engine checked. Body gets fixed, Tranny gets a software upgrade that doesn't help, and nothing is reported wrong with engine. Now one year later, we bring it back in because it is running rough. Spradley says it needs a new engine -- and that they never did a diagnosis on the engine a year ago.

Also nobody that was in service last year are there now. What the heck? How is dad supposed to help his daughter when the Kia dealer can't even be relied on to provide requested service? Dealer says it's not covered under any of the myriad recalls and lawsuits -- but again, their veracity is questionable. Now checking with BBB and see they have a solid D-.

I am open to any and all suggestions -- well, lets keep it on the morally acceptable side of societal norms.

It was our very first road trip with our Kia Sorento. We drove 2,000 miles and engine froze and nothing worked. We were towed to a Kia Motor of America in O' Fallen,IL ( Auffenburg) It was a late Friday afternoon.

We had to stay in a hotel for three days $413.25

We had to rent a car from Enterprise $319.20

We had no more money to stay at the hotel. We drove to my sisters in Tennessee and waited. We got in touch with Kia Customer Service when we were told the engine had to be replaced at a cost of $10,000. installation After several days of bickering with Kia Customer support, they finally agreed to pay for the engine but we had to pay for the installation.

We have case case number from KIA K3033038. They would not pay the additional charges we had to pay. This never should have happened. I hate KIA and will tell everyone I know to not buy KIA products.

I am so disappointed. January 2016, My daughter went to get the oil changed. About 30 minutes later the car cut off on the highway. We tried to start it back up but it had a loud knock, then cut off again. I took it to the Kia dealer and they said we have to have the engine replaced. Then Kia proceeded to ask us to do a new car loan. We wanted to find out what the issue was and they said the oil pan was dented. Then another mechanic said it wasn't the oil pan. The car has been sitting since then, yet we're still making payments on it. This really sucks and Kia needs to do something about this.

I bought a 2011 Kia Sorento on January 27,2016 and had to wait until February 8, 2017 to take possession of it because of a faulty instrument cluster. I had it for a year and put 12,000 miles on it. It had 53,857 miles when purchased and just over 65,000 miles now. On February 27, 2017 I got one and only one indication of a problem. It started to lack power. Going up a slight incline, I had to have it floored to stay at 20mph. Once I got home and shut it down, my Sorento would not restart. I had it towed to my garage where I was told it had no compression and needed a new engine. I then contacted Kia consumer number and the dealer I purchased it from. Both said to have it towed to the dealership. The dealership said the same as my garage, needs a new engine. The service manager said he was surprised that my vin was not on the warranty extension list. He also stated that if I was the original owner they would changevout the engine with no problem or cost to me. I am the second owner of the Sorento and was told the warranty was not able to be extended for me and the 5 year 60,000 mile warranty was expired. This means I am stuck paying $14,000 for a huge paper weight or the cost of replacing the engine. After seeing all the complaints posted everywhere and Hyundai recalling all their 2.4L engines, it makes me wonder why Kia wants to be know as a scamming dealership. No matter which way this plays out I will never buy another Kia in my life time.

There is a serious problem with 2.4 motors supplied to kia by Hyundai. Rotating assembly Crank journal had holes improperly drilled or cleaned during assembly causing catastrophic engine failure. Kia will try to wiggle out of the fix, unless you prove all oil changes were done by Kia Dealer.

Hyundai has acknowledged problem but KIA has not. My car was fixed free of charge under warranty with a new short block and head and all components on motor changed. This is a prevalent problem on KIAs with the 2.4 motor manufactured in the Alabama Hyundai plant between 2009 and 2011.

Google Hyundai recall 2.4 liter motor. there is a class action suit against Hyundai on this.

i HAD MY CAR IN FOR 90,000 MILE SERVICING AND RECALL FOR TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT LEVER. THEY DID THEIR MULTI POINT INSPECTION AND SAID THE CAR WAS IN GOOD SHAPE. tHE VERY NEXT TIME I DROVE IT THE ENGINE SHOOK REAL BAD AND IT STARTED KNOCKING AND SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE TAILPIPE.

2011 4 Cyl. 2wd Kia Sorento would not start. Called the dealer and wants me to bring the car for a computer analysis check. I checked the fuse box and switched one of the fuses to the start engine fuse and it worked for a day. Last night I came to a red light and the engine shut off. I had to pull of off to the side and grabbed the horn fuse and replaced it to the start engine fuse and the car started up again. Why is this happening? Blowing the fuses on a daily basis. I had the battery replaced a month ago, so its not the battery. Does anyone have an idea as to what's going on? The mechanic at the dealer mentioned a signal sent to the engine to shut the engine off. On 2013 the dealer replaced the brake sensor which was a recall.

On 06/15/2015 drove my car to the barn, then it will not start. I thought it's battery problem. Battery is only 1 year old. So I charged the battery. Didn't work. So I jumped it, it had a hard time starting. It finally started after 3 attempts. I got a new battery for it. Then it happened again two days later, got it started after a few attempts.Took it to Kia service. They said oil ring has slow leak. Dealer changed o ring, and then several days, it had issues starting. The dealer kept my car for two days to listen and fix the knocking noise.

Finally on Friday 06/27/15, it won't start at all. It has this grinding, hard start. I called the # 800-333-4542. Since it is still under warranty, they had my car towed for free, and dealer gave me a loaner car. I called Kia at # 678-385-8540 and ask what's going on as the dealer said they are waiting for Kia support team approval to test the engine.

After two weeks, Kia called and told dealer to test engine. It has issues with low compression on 2 chambers and finally the decision was to replace the engine. On 7/11/2015, dealer submitted an order to have Kia ship engine. I was told, next week, I should hear from them. NOTHING happened. I called the 678 # again, and was told by Ms. Kushell that she's contacting the regional manager to give priorities to my case.That it should be taken care of between 7/20 to 7/25. This morning, 7/17/15, I got a call from the dealer that the ETA for engine arrival will be 7/31/2015, as there are no engines anywhere in the U.S.

To date (7/17/2015), the car has been at the Kia dealer service for almost a month now. I have pending trips that I kept postponing to accommodate the issues. But this is getting out of hand, as I am getting the round around talks. Ms. Kushell said, they can ship my car to the place I'm going, but what am I supposed to do, walk the 1500 miles?

catastrophic engine failure due to broken cam shaft- casted part- V4 should not break. this dealership stated they had never seen this happen. Asking corporate to have some product integrity and replace engine just out of warranty, had we been first time buyers it would be covered. Corporate has stopped returning calls after asked for supervisor contact information. Very similar to a class action suit on slightly older model.
