Sorento LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 125,000 miles

Bought this vehicle and extended warranty from the second owner. It had about 89k miles. Few weeks after purchase, I observed the cruise control was not working properly despite repeated visit to the dealer's repair shop. Then i started hearing a slight rattling sound from the engine. The sound increase gradually as time pass. About a months before the expiration of the extended engine warranty, I took the car to a private mechanics for check. Even though the mechanic did not pin point the cause of the the ticking and rattling sound, he ruled out the obvious and said it might be a sign of a major problem with the engine.

After a detail service and flushing the engine, the ticking and rattling sound was not heard for just few weeks. Then it was heard few days after the extended warranty expired and it had being getting worse ever since. I took the car to the Kia dealership service center and I was told out-rightly that the car needs engine replacement and it may cost nothing less than $5,500. I am so disturbed and afraid of driving it to and from work to save money for the new engine. Reading complaints from other 2013 Kia Sorento owners, I wonder if Kia cars are reliable cars they are said to be.
