problem #1

Feb 122014

Sorento LX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 12,000 miles

The initial problem started in December of 2013. The Sorento would only fill up to half tank of fuel. It was brought to the Kia Dealer we bought it from. Based on the technicians assessment, he found out the Kia Sorento had actually 2 fuel tanks, and that the "float device - a ball I think" transfers between the 2 tanks it gets stuck in the middle basically blocking the filling of the 2nd tank. He said it was "pinched". Whatever he did, the fuel tanks were back to normal filling up to full but that lasted till a few days ago 2/12/14.

When I went to fill up the gas tank, it only filled up to half tank. I brought it back to the same dealership/service center and now I'm waiting for the technician to find a resolution from the "Kia Call Center".

Anyone else experiencing this issue or possibly on another vehicle type/model?

Update from Apr 17, 2014: Kia Call Center thought the problem could be the "Roll over air release valve" which releases the air when pumping gas to fill the tank up. Dealership did the replacement under warranty and so far no more issues with the fuel system and filling the tanks up.

Still wish the dealership would have offered to pick up the tab to fill my gas tank since they kept having to waste gas (empty the fuel tank) to fix it.
