Subject: Urgent: Structural Failure of Driver Seat Component -?" 2015 Kia Sorento I am writing to report a serious structural failure in the driver seat of my 2015 Kia Sorento. While driving under normal conditions, the torsion tube under the driver-??s seat snapped, causing the seat to become unstable and compromising my safety. This part is labeled: -??4 Way Manual-?? Johnson Controls, Inc., Holland, MI Markings: [XXX] &&[XXX] and [XXX] This torsion tube is a core part of the seat structure and should not fail under normal use. Electrical malfunctions inside the vehicle when you start up (I.e. driver seat heating up, panel flashing, fuel ignition taking off sparadically when the car is in motion on city street, rear brakes screehing when in motion, (city street) car constantly requiring a charge up of the battery and replacement of batteries when stationary, exterior lights remaining on excessively after car is turned off, hood of car extremely hot to touch, liquid residue on driveway from rear brakes after the car is parked after use. When the car is stationary for 1 day or more the battery shorts out. When the car is in motion on city street the accelerator has a tendency to idle up and then resume back to normal.

The contact owned a 2015 Kia Sorento. While the contact's vehicle was at a complete stop at a red light, another vehicle failed to stop and rear ended the contact's vehicle. The crash pushed the contact's vehicle into the intersection. The driver's seat separated from the base and caused the driver's seat to move backwards and forward, causing the driver's body to strike the rear passenger and driver's seat railings, the driver's window, driver's door, and dashboard. The driver suffered injuries to the neck, head, and face. The contact was seated in the front passenger seat and suffered seat belt bruises and lower back pain. The driver and passenger side air bags failed to deploy. The driver required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a collision shop. A police report was filed. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
