Sorento SX 3.3L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,191 miles

I noticed that my 2016 Kia Sorento SX began losing power when going slowly into a parking space. I stopped by the Kia dealership that day to ask if I could have my Kia looked at and was told that I couldn’t that day. My Kia was eventually seen a few days later and I received the diagnosis for the car as a rear differential requiring replacement at $3300. I was also told that it was possible that if there was further damage, and the total for repairs could amount up to $18,000 if the drive train and transmission were involved. In addition, I was informed that I was no longer covered under any warranty and would have to cover all repairs myself except for $700 which the dealership offered to pay. When I asked what recourse was available to me, I was told that I would need to pay for any repairs or I could speak to the sales department (about a trade in) but had two days to make up my mind. I was shocked at this reply as I was in another city at the time for another week and had arrange to get the car towed back to my house. I was also stunned that such a young vehicle would have such serious drive train problems. I called Kia Canada who referred me back to the dealership.

One of the main reasons we decided to buy this vehicle was for reliability.

When we purchased this vehicle, we did hours of research looking for the best vehicle to buy with highest safety and dependability ratings. We were willing to spend extra money to ensure we would not need to worry about the vehicle for years to come. In summary we made an educated buying decision based on reviews and dealer information for the safest, sturdiest and most reliable vehicle.

After contacting the Kia dealership, I also sent three letters to Kia Canada and never received a response. This experience with Kia has left me very disappointed and upset. I chose Kia because I believed I was choosing the best product possible. However this is the second costly repair in less than 6 months to this vehicle. I had to get a total repair and replacement of the oil filter housing as it was leaking. These problems with the drive train are very serious for such a new vehicle.

I have done some research online and found the following links of interest: http://m.carcomplaints.com/Kia/Sorento/2016/engine/stalling_at_acceleration.shtml http://m.carcomplaints.com/Kia/Sorento/2016/engine/engine_failure.shtml http://m.carcomplaints.com/Kia/Sorento/2016/engine/ http://www.kiacomplaints.com/models/sorento/tsbs/2014/

Prior to this experience, I have had nothing but great praise for my Kia Sorrento and for Kia in general.

Having invested my savings (almost $50,000) on what I thought was a very reliable car, I feel devastated and at a loss of what to do next. My Kia Sorento is currently parked in my driveway as I await some resolution through Kia Canada, which has not been forthcoming.
