Woke up one morning to this crack after a cold night. It starts at the very bottom of my windshield. No chips at all, the crack is smooth as a baby's bottom. First manager at dealership said they do not fix windshields. So I went to my book and found out if it is a manufacturing defect then they should cover it. So we called and spoke to his boss. He said bring it in and let him look at it.
So I did so immediately. He took pictures and my information. He stated that he believed it is a stress fracture. However he is no expert and cannot approve the replacement. about another 2 weeks go by and I believe the manager was trying to help me but his boss was fighting it. Stating that no it is from a chip in the windshield. The tiny itty bitty chip he found was 2 inches from the bottom of the windshield and an inch off to the side of the crack. How do I know that crack didn't start before I bought my car and the first little cold snap we had, it grew to where I could see it??!! The chip was NO WHERE NEAR the crack that obviously started at the bottom of the windshield.
I am now communicating with KIA Consumer Affairs trying to get my windshield taken care. As of right now, I refuse to replace my windshield. Because I truly believe it is a stress fracture. I am a long time KIA fan. I sure hope they don't lose my business over this. I will leave them and find a better dealership and brand of car.

I WAS DRIVING ON A NORMAL FREEWAY, BEAUTIFUL DAY AND SUDDENLY FOR NOT REASON MY FRONT WINDSHIELD GOT A CRACK OUT OF THE BLUE, VERY SCARY. I DID CALL KIA RIGHT THE WAY. I TOLD THEM I WAS DRIVING FROM LA TO SAN FRANCISCO ON THE FREEWAY 5, ON VACATION FOR 4 DAYS, WHAT HAPPENED, AND THAT I WAS AFRAID THE CRACK CONTINUE EXPANDING. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DEALER & THEY WILL TAKE CARE OF IT.
WHEN I CAME BACK AFTER MY VACATION WITH THE KIDS, WE WENT TO KIA IN GLENDALE. THEY SAID IT WAS A ROCK!! WON'T COVER IT. I CALLED MANUFACTURER AGAIN. THEY SAID DON'T WORRY, GO AGAIN AND THEY WILL HELP YOU OUT.
NOBODY IS HELPING US. CAR IS NOT SAFE. WE HAD BEEN MISTREATED, VERBALLY ABUSED AND NOBODY IS DOING ANYTHING TO HELP US OUT. CAR WAS BRAND NEW, LESS THAN 30 DAYS. DEFECTIVE, YOU CAN'T TRUST THIS CAR, IT IS A RIP OFF!! VERY UPSET & DISAPPOINTED WITH KIA. 1ST AND LAST TIME. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR OVER 30 YEARS, NEVER HAD A SITUATION LIKE THIS WITH ANY CAR.

I noticed the crack when I came out of the store and the sun was glaring on it. Upon further inspection, the crack was actually INSIDE the glass, you could not feel the crack on the surface of the windshield on neither the interior side nor the exterior. The windshield cracked from the inside out. Definitely a manufacturer defect.
Kia would not replace the windshield, even though their own mechanic verified the crack was not the result of any exterior circumstances, i.e. rock, accident, etc. Kia claimed the car had been on the road too long and that's why they wouldn't replace it. I owned the SUV approx. 7 months at the time. Luckily I had purchased windshield protection through my car insurance and was able to use that to have the windshield replaced.
