The factory provided keys for the car are integrated remote wireless entry key fobs and concealed ignition key. To reveal the key, a button on the fob is pressed and a spring loaded arm rotates the key out of the fob so it can be inserted into the steering column mounted ignition switch. On the day of the incident, after parking the car I went to turn off the ignition by rotating the key fob counter clockwise. When I did the armature that holds the key snapped off leaving the key in the ignition and the engine running. As only a small portion of the key remained exposed, it was very difficult to turn the engine off and I was not able to restart the car as not enough of the key projected to apply rotational force to. It would seem the ability to turn off the car in emergencies is crucial to safety and I feel there should be a recall investigation initiated. (filed on behalf of my wife, [xxx]) information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
