Soul ! 2.0L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 144,000 miles

Driving down the highway, engine started ticking. No warning lights or sounds. Thought it was weird so I slowed down. Clicking got louder. Took an exit. Bottom of ramp engine died. Attempted to restart, engine was very hard to turn over. Opened hood, engine oil all over and smoking. Took it to shop.

Seems somehow the coolant leaked out, if the coolant leaks out and there's no coolant level sensor, the overheat sensor never goes off because the coolant level is below the heat sensor... Facepalm.

End result. Engine got too hot to justify fixing. Used engine to be installed. $500 for an engine with 96k miles on it. Labor however... Looking to be $1000+

There was no prior warning. I always do service when it should be. Oil change was just past due. Never particularly hard on the car. Rather disappointing.
