Soul 4U 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 86,992 miles

I purchased a used 2010 Kia Soul from a dealership in 2012 because it was my DREAM CAR. I had wanted one since they came out and I could finally afford a used model. It was an amazing car until I was driving back from work and I started hearing this rubbing in my front passenger tire and eventually led to a tire blow out on the side of the road. Caused by a broken spring, strut and ball joint (how I don't even know). I figured it was a pothole or something so replaced the tire and all the parts for ~$2000 the first time.

Ran fine for about another 20,000km until I was involved in a collision. Had the car towed to a Kia dealership and their affiliate auto body shop (Fun motor group in Saskatoon) to be fixed. I picked it up and within weeks I had two flat front tires that were stripped right down to the metal components (on the inside of the tires that aren't visible unless pulled off). Took it back to Kia and contacted our insurance company to bring it up, denied having any role in the problem. Took it to another mechanic to find out the alignment was done incorrectly, the parts were replaced with used parts, not new, the control arm was bent, another broken spring and worn ball joint. Confronted Kia and their body shop and insisted it was driver error and neglect and must have hit a pothole. This repair including two new tires (which the ruined tires were only a couple weeks old) came out to approx $3000.

Had an oil change on my car last week and the mechanic advised me that the alignment is still out and my tires are wearing unevenly on the front vs the back and could be caused by damage to other parts in the car from faulty/poor work previously.

And today.. I had driven my Soul around all weekend on the grids to the lake, and out to my job at a barn outside the city, avoided all potholes, drove slowly on rough roads etc. got back to city and everything was running smoothly, until I ran out for errands later this morning. All of a sudden, I turned the corner out of my parking spot and the spring on my front passenger tire broke and was rubbing against my tire.. Called Kia about a part .. can't be brought in for 48 hours and it's a Kia exclusive part so I can't even get it from another place to fix it in a timely manner.

I am so fed up that this car can't seem to handle any kind of bump or bumpy terrain without ending up with thousands of dollars of repairs. I have had to purchase 3 brand new sets of tires because of these problems, not to mention countless of hours of time off work, or commuting back and forth to different shops etc. I love this car but I am severely sorry that I ended up purchasing it instead of a vehicle than can handle driving on grid roads or secondary highways.

Soul Sport 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,000 miles

After all the problems with the Kia Soul since March of 2012, I don't like Kia's. I would never own another one.

I have had 3 Sets of Shocks put on trying to get rid of the vibration, Plus Struts, Bearings, plus the caps. 7 Sets of All Season Tires and new rims totaling the amount trying to get rid of the vibration in the car to about $8305.00. I never, in my wildest dreams, did I think I would have this car. I loved it when I first had it, than after all the problems I would give it up in a heart beat. I also have never been able to get the recalls on the car because I told the Kia Dealership I wasn't paying for the service to be done, they were going to charge me $175.00 for the labor on the service done.

So in that matter I would do anything to get rid of it. It is a embarrassment to have the problems when as a customer I was taking advantage of dealing with there problems after taking the car.
