The backup camera on my 2012 Soul started acting up around 67,000 miles. Every so often, the screen would display solid black (but it still showed the colored lines over the black image) when shifted into reverse. Dealer was gonna charge like $400+ to replace the camera, but before we bothered to get it fixed, it kinda fixed itself, as the weather got cooler, the camera started working fine again, and it hasn't done it since then in every subsequent summer. Very peculiar, sporadic problem, but I think it most likely has to do with excessive heat and humidity screwing up the camera. Definitely not a huge problem, just annoying as it's so pricey to fix.

The back up camera no longer appears on my screen. Several months later I am car washing my Kia and the cover plate falls off of the camera on the rear hatch, and I can see why it stopped working, as it has corrosion all over the camera and around it....my guess would be from a faulty seal to keep the elements out of the camera lens
