Soul 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 19,914 miles

The engine runs and idles rough intermittently. This problem may go along with the gasoline smell coming from the engine, that was noted on a separate entry. I almost always use QT fuel. I have occasionally used Circle K and rarely another brand of fuel. The service advisor asked what fuel I used. I was told by her that the Kia line on average, didn't run well on Circle K or the store brand fuels. She said to stick with QT or something like Chevron. Again the car was not over fueled and the gas cap was tightened to one click. The temperature ranges from approximately 120 as a high to roughly 28 degrees as a low. It doesn't seem to have an effect on when the car is running rough. I bought the car just over one year ago. It was a certified vehicle with 16,400 miles on it. Presently it has just over 21,000 miles on it. Terrain/altitude doesn't seem to have an effect on the problem, however I haven't taken it into the mountains as yet. Therefore it really hasn't been subjected to radical heights, such as over 7,000 feet above sea level.

The car was sold new from the same dealership as I bought it.The Car Fax noted no service problems or accidents. Although I told the service advisor of the rough running and idle problem when I took it in for the gasoline smell, it wasn't listed on the repair order. You don't see the order until you pick the car up. The service department scanned the car's check engine management system w/kds for codes. None were found. They updated the software. I occasionally add a bottle of Gumout full engine cleaner to a full tank of gasoline. It may help it to run a little smoother but does not eradicate the problem.

Again from what the dealership wrote on the service order, they only checked the computer system, rather than checking under the hood. This problem may last for weeks, clear up and repeat. I'm unable to add an entry for every time it occurs since it may last for weeks.
