Soul GT Line 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,200 miles

I got this car with 16 miles on it. After about 3 weeks of driving, the brakes started squealing and grinding I took it to Kia and they said that it is a break-in period which is false because no other brakes or cars I have had have done this. I had to go to an outside mechanic who replaced pads and rotors who showed me both rotors were warped on the front. The car then start making a groaning noise when driving and it turned out to be the common faulty transmission problem.

Kia has the car now. It also made a weird noise like dragging cans behind your car for a wedding but it happened while shifting into reverse. The car also wouldn't go into reverse 3 or 4 times without restarting it. They replace the transmission with a "new" one but now it feels like the car shifts into turbo at 10mph - there is no smooth transition if you floor it or take off normally. Either way at 10 to 20mph it shifts hard into second, and then it's fine. Kia says again this is transmission break-in period and it has been doing this for 6000 miles after the new transmission.

When I shut the car off, it makes a weird groan under the steering column too. Now the last three times - the battery was dead today. I take really good care of the battery and, at 8200 miles, it's dead? That makes no sense. I guess I'm glad they cover it but a new battery every 8000 miles is bs. The engine runs really lean and the car constantly smells like gas. No matter what grade I put in, no matter where I fill up. There is always a lingering gas smell. And lastly, the car's gas mileage has never been factory even with lots of freeway driving. I get 22 mpg average. I fill up and get 288 miles until empty. Kia says it should go 429 miles and I know they electric read outs are wrong a lot, but 100+ miles off?
