Soul

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

On 12/28/22, my 2021 Kia Soul check engine light came on (less than 1 yr ownership). I have been getting it maintained at dealership, so I called asap and made an appointment for the next day. Unfortunately, that same day the engine died WHILE driving. It happened several times within under a mile. I knew the car was unsafe to drive so had to have it towed.

Dealership said car had no oil (I checked oil and fuel cap when the light first went on). They backtracked on that since they do my maintenance. They have changed CO2 sensor, then it was the cam shaft but we know what it is - same problem the kia engines have been having. Excessive oil consumption, bad pistons - causing cars to stall out out while driving or even start on fire. They aren't acknowledging this as my vehicle was not on the original recall list. These vehicles are not safe. Owners are not being taken care of.

Soul X Line 2.0L 4-cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 392 miles

I bought a 2021 Kia Soul X Line model on April 10, 2021. On April 22, 2021, the engine locked up on me while driving in town in the middle of the road. The check engine, oil light, and battery lights were flashing before the car died on me. There was smoke coming out of the engine. I happened to google why the engine would do this for a brand new car and news about recalls for the 2020 and 2021 Kia Seltos and Souls for an inconsistent heat-treating process for the piston oil rings that can damage the engine.

Unfortunately, Kia is not issuing any notice of these recalls until June 11, 2021. There is a potential fire risk and I feel they should jump on this a whole lot sooner. Well, my car has been in the shop for almost 2 weeks now and my car needs a new engine that is on back order. I was in a loaner car, but I am in a rental car now. I have been in contact with Kia corporate, but I feel like I am getting the run around. I have been researching the California Lemon Law too.
