Purchased on September 6th, it stalled on the highway September 9th, just over the generous 500 mile warranty Illinois offers for used cars. Small fortune having it towed to have original purchase place where they say they can’t diagnose it. They tow it to Kia dealer in Aurora and they inform me it’s the engine and will need to be replaced. Apparently someone contacted Kia about a month ago to try to have it qualified under the recall but was denied. Then it was traded in and sold to me. I had the car 3 days, put $1500 cash down and now I’m looking at spending thousands just to be able to drive it again. A week later and the Kia dealership still has not gotten back to me on a quote for fixing the car or what exactly went wrong with the engine, but to tell me it’s not covered under warranty or the recall. Emails to others at Kia, including their complaint division has gone unanswered. They know they put out an engine in certain makes and models and simply don’t want to deal with the problem.
I’m gonna somehow pay to have it transported back to Wisconsin and have an actual mechanic do an independent inspection to tell me what is wrong. From other posts I’ve read it will probably be best to replace the engine and all in total I’ll end up paying over $6000 in towing, inspections, parts and labor, even make my first car payment before I will be able to drive this car. Can’t wait to fix it and take another huge hit trading it in for something reliable.
