no A/C, smell, engine stalled
After the engine needed to be replaced on our brand new, 2017 KIA Sportage we had to take it back the very next day due to the inept and unprofessional actions of the KIA service department. This was an ERROR that truly could have cost people their life or at the least great bodily harm. I hope we can get something done regarding Chris and Cody at the Troy KIA dealership in Michigan. They did nothing, or should I say the very least, regarding our situation and customer service. Clearly the actual mechanical problem was also something that was difficult for them to handle.

In March, I took my 2017 Kia Sportage Turbo to University Kia because it was stalling and having problems starting and the check engine light was on. I was told it would be 3 weeks before a diagnostic. I took it to Goodyear March 13, 2022, they changed the battery and 2 or 3 spark plugs. The car ran good for a little while. I had to take it back to Kia in June at 61,300mi for the same reason, stalling, and problems with the car running when I pressed the gas & the check engine light was on.
I left the car with them because I didn't want any further problems and it was not safe to dive. The Customer Rep said I needed coils and spark plugs changed. I could not afford their prices. I picked the car up on June 24, 2022 and took it to a reputable car shop, Christian Brothers, to see if they could do it cheaper. They also ran a diagnostic. CB said it was the spark plugs and coils and that cylinders 2, 3 are misfiring, and they suggested that all the spark plugs be changed and all four coils. However they quoted more money for the coils and Iridium Long spark plugs that were not KIA original parts.
I went to Auto Zone and bought the coils and Bosch Double Iridium Pin to Pin spark plugs, OE (original equipment). The car ran pretty well. It started acting up again late July. I called and scheduled an appointment with Kia. However, on Aug 5 I dropped the car off at Kia because it got so bad that I did not feel safe driving. It was stalling, smoke came from the pipe in the back when I pressed the gas. Once again Kia said it would probably take 3 weeks for a diagnostic. They were able to get it in sooner and said I needed new spark plugs. I gave them permission to change the spark plugs. I was then told that the mechanic broke a spark plug and it fell into the cylinder. I would need a new engine. They tried to go through the warranty and was denied. Now they are saying it was broke before they got the car & they are not liable. The car was having problems prior to the AM spark plugs. So we had the car towed to another Kia Dealership because I had a mechanical breakdown insurance. That warranty company wouldn't pay because technically, the engine is still under manufacture warranty from Kia.
