Sportage EX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

I bought my 2017 Kia Sportage EX in March of 2016. It had 1.7 mile on it. I picked the car out while it was still being unloaded from the truck at the dealership. I replaced my 1998 Ford Explorer when I bought this car because I wanted something with better mileage. The window sticker stated (I am paraphrasing because I do not have the sticker in front of me, however I do still have it.) 26 city 32 Highway.

Shortly after I bought it, I noticed the car did not get any better mileage than my explorer did and in some cases, it got worse. I contacted the dealer and they said it will get better mileage once it got broken in. It did not. I contacted Kia's customer service and they said they have no reported issues of this problem. The car had about 3,000 at this point. At around 10,000 I called again. They again said they have had not reported issues on this issue. I took it to the Dealer a few times for recalls and they looked into the issue and said they could not find anything. I started recording my fuel / mileage purchase at 2,986 miles, the last fill up was at 60,692 miles. My average mileage is 19.8, worst was 12.6 and the best mileage was 40.5. I fill up with either 89 0r 92 octane gas, even though the dealer said I should use the 87 octane. I welcome any fixes or Ideas. I do use Techron every other tankfull to try to help.
