Sportage SL 2.4L Gdi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 18,330 miles

While merging with heavy traffic the check engine light activated and the vehicle went into 'limp home mode' and my speed immediately went from approximately 80 km/hr to 20 km/hr. The vehicle was then towed to the local Kia dealership where a software update was performed. I was warned by the tech at the dealership that they could not diagnose the problem and that it could happen again despite the fact that this was the second software update performed on this vehicle to address this problem.

This engine is currently the subject of a class action lawsuit in Quebec and is being investigated by Transport Canada for what is alleged to be a design/manufacturing defect(s) which can result in a fire or engine failure. Kia Canada has not offered any compensation or solution to mitigate or repair what is apparently a common issue with this engine.

Our KIA Sportage died or went into limp back mode 70 mi North of Wichita. Had it towed back to Midwest Kia when next day they said it needed new engine. After 1 month they called and said it was wiring harness. I've been trying to find out if KIA will ship vehicle from Wichita to Duluth without much success. It will take us three days to go down and get it plus expenses. Still waiting on response from caseworker.

engine failure

Picked up my car Thursday April 25 at Mastria KIA of Raynham, MA and it was fine for local driving till this morning. Was entering a highway and gave it some gas and NO ACCELERATION !! Got to 50 mph and it felt sluggish and no power as I reported and was told fixed. Somehow did not get rear ended and drove home. Tried to call Mastria KIA and the service dept has no Sunday hours. Twice now could have been killed. Love car when it works. Thinking of getting it towed to dealer and sitting outside on road entrance with a sign offering test drive in a DEATH MOBILE.

KIA YOU HAVE ENGINE ISSUES

Update from May 20, 2019: Its NOW May 20, 2019 and KIA STILL has NO IDEA what the fix is for my Sportage. Hear from the service department in Raynham MA and the customer service HQ person assigned to my case but still no fix and time frame for car return. Worst mistake EVER buying this car especially from this dealer. All I ever hear from the service manager is its not our fault please do not blame us. You have have my car for over 2 months. ESCALATE the issue and DO SOMETHING
