Freelander 6-cyl

  • 159,000 miles
2002 Land Rover Freelander intake motors. Replaced by owner approx 40K miles ago. I was in a very bad(unrelated) auto accident 22 July. While relatives were available to take me to doctors, etc., I knew I also had a trouble light on the Freelander that had to be cleared for state inspection. When they took it to lr of cary I had to replace yet again the entire plenum assembly at a cost of 2K to owner. Advised by dealer that the parts when they receive them are sometimes malfunctioning upon receipt. Possible accident in colo caused by seized intake motors(per lr dealer in colo) numerous complaints of faulty intake motors can be easily found on line.

2002 Land Rover Freelander. Engine replaced at 56,000 miles, it is once again in shop for engine problems at 79,000 miles. Fuel pump replaced at 70,000 miles. 5-6 batteries have been replaced since owned car in 2005 and no one knows problem. This car has been in the shop at least 10 times for extended lengths since I've owned it. I have kept up with all oil changes and have taken very good care of this car. Everytime I research it, I find nothing but complaints a mile long. I believe there to be a serious problem with this car, and think that something should be done for the unfortunate owners of them.

I was driving on I45 on my way to work, when my 2002 Land Rover Freelander stopped working without any notice. I had to quickly do anything I could to ge out off the freeway with no power. It was one of the scariest days of my life. Thankfully the other drivers noticed that there was something wrong with the car and slowed and I was able to exit. I had to get the car towed to a shop where they told me that I needed a new fuel pump. I got it replaced and it worked well for 2 month and now its leaking fuel. The motor is also leaking antifreeze all over the place. You need to look into this cars. There's to many problems with it and complaints to go along. Thanks

Multiple problems expensive and hard to find parts, fuel pump, thermostat and transmission. SUV stalls in traffic, thermostat leaks constantly and transmission jerks violently in second gear.

I have had numerous problems with my 2002 landrover Freelander. Last month the gasoline broke while driving, spewing out a full tank of gas. This month, on my way for routine service, almost 200 miles away, the transmission went. I had it towed (for the fourth time) to landrover spokane who quoted me a price of 7100 dollars to fix my transmission. This car is just coming up to 55,000 miles.

Water pump failed, took to dealer for replacement, gas pump failed took it to shop to replace it, gas tank lid failed, both one from dealer to replace it, engine cooling system failed, transmission failed, took it to shop they refuse to fix, they say is not their fault and is not cover by warranty anymore, window motor failed, windshield wiper switch failed, headlights failed, coolant container crack, replaced with new one from dealer. Stop light recalled. Air filtering system retains water which allows mold to grow, air filters replaced.

I purchased this SUV with only 14,000 on it with the remaining factory warranty. At 21,000 the SUV engine left me stranded on the interstate 2 hours from home. It had to be towed. Land Rover fixed it, $13,000 they found metal shavings in the engine at 21,000 miles. The warranty covered the engine, but they charged me $80 for an oil change~ you have to put new oil in a new engine~~but they made me pay for the oil! they navigation system screen went black and keeps going off, they said the warranty would pay for it, never heard back and the warranty is out last month. They fixed a recall on the carb the last oil change. The brakes ground down to the rotors, had to replace them at 20,000. New engine left me stranded in another state with my little girl in the middle of no where with no cell service. Needed towed again. The anti-freeze hose had come loose from engine, caused it to shut down...had to fix, no warranty, car had 52,000 miles (2,000 over) last week I was taking my daughter to school and smelled gasoline very strongly, after having to idle in behind the buses in front of her school. With children walking by, and blocked in by another mom, it nearly exploded! the gas gauge had went down 1/2 tank, it started to smoke and nearly got fire. They said I was very lucky to have not been in a fire with my daughter. Over 3/4 tank of gas had leaked out under the hood of the SUV and if something would have sparked it, my daughter & I would not be here, and maybe not the children in front of the school standing by buses or on bus next to SUV. They also found oil plug was leaking after Land Rover dealer changed oil at $80 and never put seal back on plug. Almost burnt engine up again. Right now it is sitting at repair shop, Land Rover accidentally sent them a wheel bearing last week instead of the part to fix gas leak, I have a rental car for over 1 week now. I have no idea how much the cost will be to get it fixed this time, I'm pretty much screwed.
