About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
My family and I were driving home in my 2018 Range Rover Sport, which I purchased in 2019 from Land Rover of Sudbury (Massachusetts). A brief -??coolant level low-?? warning flashed on the dashboard for less than a minute, then promptly went away and never flashed or displayed again. Minutes later, the car started shaking, forcing us to pull over onto the side of the Massachusetts Turnpike. The engine then immediately began smoking. The temperature gauge never went above the midpoint level, so we were quite confused about what the problem was. We had the car towed directly to Land Rover of Sudbury. They informed me that the engine needed to be replaced. I find it unacceptable, and most importantly, unsafe, that the car would go from a -??Coolant Level Low-?? warning that lasted mere seconds before disappearing, to ZERO coolant and a catastrophic engine failure minutes later while driving on [XXX] This all happened only a few months after the vehicle had ostensibly been deemed to be in suitable repair by Land Rover of Sudbury upon my re-taking possession of it following 6+ months in their service shop. I still have not received any answer whatsoever from the dealership as to what went wrong with my vehicle. I have serious concerns that this could be evidence of a more pervasive issue that could potentially affect other vehicles that are currently on the road. I also question whether the service performed to the vehicle at Land Rover of Sudbury in 2023 was the cause of the issue. I question the sensors in the vehicle, as well as the communication to the dashboard, and I would like this fully investigated. Why would the coolant level low warning have gone off so quickly after it came on if there was NO coolant" Why would the temperature gauge on the dashboard not have elevated if the car was overheating" All of these questions lead me to the belief that something was wrong with the vehicle beyond what has been conveyed to me so far. To whom it may concern, my vehicle which is at 15,000 miles and about 18 months old, has been facing continuous failures on its electric and electronic components that affected the air suspension shutting down, emergency break locking up, sudden shut down of the middle main console, a shut down of safety features around mirrors and similar vehicle safety warning systems. The issues happen while driving. I took it back to my dealer several times and even the last time after service the car came back with an engine warning sign. I made multiple attempts with Land Rover to correct and stated that my family and I feel very unsafe and insecure not knowing what can break down next. When we asked if it is safe the company responded that we should make that determination without an engineering or technical background. The company also said they will take 30 business days to review our case however upon several reminders that we are not feeling safe, Land Rover opts to ignore or state that they do not have resources ie people to review these cases. I would like to enter into record that we did make many attempts to relay our concerns and if there are to be any accidents it is the fault of the company for continuously ignoring the seriousness of the case and total lack of care for passenger safety. I am writing on this venue hoping that you might be able to convince the company to pay attention to the matter.

Immediately after purchasing noted episodes of sudden loss of acceleration from a stop with vehicle warning lights. Repeated dealer visits failed to disclose source of issue. Finally on the interstate for a return dealer visit had sudden and almost total loss of engine power that resulted in near collision. Was only able to obtain speed of 48 mph with fully depressed accelerator. Second issue is episodes of complete and total failure of the cruise control to include total loss of radar proximity warning system while on the interstate. Thirdly have ongoing issues with touch screen vehicle controls, trailer tow package, failure of surround camera system, park assist system failure. In the first 90 days of ownership vehicle has not only been at the dealership multiple times, but also has been in the dealers possession over 50 days. Vehicle remains at the dealer as unsafe to drive for above issues that remain ongoing.
