While driving on the freeway a low coolant notification came on. Minutes later we saw what we believed to be our engine in smoke. We made it to the side of the highway before the car became engulfed in steam. Car was towed to Land Rover Rancho Mirage. It was found that lower front coolant manifold had failed what caused the sudden release of steam. This caused engine to overheat and allow coolant to enter the lubrication jacket causing the oil to become contaminated resulting in full engine damage. The person we spoke with knew pretty quickly what happened. Online research shows this is a known problem with Land Rover Range Rover Sport and it has not been recalled. We were quoted 30K to replace engine. We got it replaced outside of dealership for 20K. This is a serious safety issue. I have videos of damage I can send in an email, it will not let me upload.

My family and I were driving home in my 2018 Range Rover Sport, which I purchased in 2019 from Land Rover of Sudbury (Massachusetts). A brief -??coolant level low-?? warning flashed on the dashboard for less than a minute, then promptly went away and never flashed or displayed again. Minutes later, the car started shaking, forcing us to pull over onto the side of the Massachusetts Turnpike. The engine then immediately began smoking. The temperature gauge never went above the midpoint level, so we were quite confused about what the problem was. We had the car towed directly to Land Rover of Sudbury. They informed me that the engine needed to be replaced. I find it unacceptable, and most importantly, unsafe, that the car would go from a -??Coolant Level Low-?? warning that lasted mere seconds before disappearing, to ZERO coolant and a catastrophic engine failure minutes later while driving on [XXX] This all happened only a few months after the vehicle had ostensibly been deemed to be in suitable repair by Land Rover of Sudbury upon my re-taking possession of it following 6+ months in their service shop. I still have not received any answer whatsoever from the dealership as to what went wrong with my vehicle. I have serious concerns that this could be evidence of a more pervasive issue that could potentially affect other vehicles that are currently on the road. I also question whether the service performed to the vehicle at Land Rover of Sudbury in 2023 was the cause of the issue. I question the sensors in the vehicle, as well as the communication to the dashboard, and I would like this fully investigated. Why would the coolant level low warning have gone off so quickly after it came on if there was NO coolant" Why would the temperature gauge on the dashboard not have elevated if the car was overheating" All of these questions lead me to the belief that something was wrong with the vehicle beyond what has been conveyed to me so far. The engine overheating light came on followed by coolant level low. There was a rattling sound coming from underneath, the car slowed down, and smoke came into the air vents in the car and was smoking under the hood when pulled over. I took my vehicle to the closest dealership, Honda, to assess and determine if it needed to be towed to Land Rover or if they could fix it. The day prior the coolant level low light came on, my husband filled the coolant and the light went off. When I was driving my car the next day the light came on along with the engine overheating, something was dripping from underneath when the vehicle was turned off.

Vehicle hesitates on accelerating from low speed. It is extremely dangerous and I have nearly been broadsided a number of times. From a rolling start at low speed, depressing the accelerator pedal has no effect.. it feels like an eternity until the engine comes to life. I would say at least two full seconds. And when it finally does come to life, it can be a neck-snapping shocking jolt that will cause passengers to scream. It is my belief that Jaguar Land Rover North America is aware of this issue but has not addressed it for 2018+ L494 Range Rover Sport's with the 5.0L Supercharged V8 engine. I have had the vehicle in at the dealer a number of times for this issue and they state that there is nothing wrong. This vehicle has 518hp and when the powertrain hesitates to respond to the accelerator pedal being depressed, it exacerbates an already very dangerous situation by ultimately slamming the car into gear in a very violent way. The powertrain / transmission is certainly not behaving normally. This is my 3rd Range Rover Sport with the 5.0L V8 engine, and neither of my two prior vehicles experienced this phenomenon. It seems to be applicable to the 2018+ models only. This must be fixed by Jaguar Land Rover!

The contact owns a 2018 Land Rover Range rover sport. While driving various speeds, the vehicle shut off without warning and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to Land Rover of chantilly (4120 auto park cir, chantilly, va 20151, 703-679-4000) to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was returned to the contact, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer to be serviced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 14,000.

Immediately after purchasing noted episodes of sudden loss of acceleration from a stop with vehicle warning lights. Repeated dealer visits failed to disclose source of issue. Finally on the interstate for a return dealer visit had sudden and almost total loss of engine power that resulted in near collision. Was only able to obtain speed of 48 mph with fully depressed accelerator. Second issue is episodes of complete and total failure of the cruise control to include total loss of radar proximity warning system while on the interstate. Thirdly have ongoing issues with touch screen vehicle controls, trailer tow package, failure of surround camera system, park assist system failure. In the first 90 days of ownership vehicle has not only been at the dealership multiple times, but also has been in the dealers possession over 50 days. Vehicle remains at the dealer as unsafe to drive for above issues that remain ongoing.

The 2018 model has a significant throttle delay when accelerating the car from a stop, resulting in delay in movement after pressing the accelerator pedal. This can be very dangerous when turning onto busy roads and when accelerating at stop signs, as it takes 1-2 seconds before the car registers that the accelerator pedal has been depressed, and then jolts forward at a high speed to "catch up". two Land Rover dealers (West chester pa and wayne pa) have confirmed that numerous customers have complained about this issue but they have not been able to fix it and have been researching solutions for months. The service manager in West chester pa confirmed that one of their service technicians, when testing this issue, was almost hit by a moving car in front of the dealership because the car he was driving did not react soon enough after he depressed the acceleration pedal. The wayne pa service dept confirmed that there is 0.8 second throttle delay when testing another car (not mine). I formerly submitted a case to Land Rover Jaguar of North America but they have not yet resolved this issue. These cars should not be on the road with this issue!
