My 2012 Lexus CT200 starting rattling on cold starts. It went on for a couple weeks. I took the car in before it's next service date because the temperature light and check engine light came on.
The dealership ran test and said it may be a blow head gasket but with out taking the head off, the would not know. I gave the the green light, hoping at worse it be a blow head gasket. Once the head was off, the dealership found that the block was damaged.
This repair on a career discount cost me over $5K. I've been in the industry over 20 years. Without favor, they said the cost would have been approximately 9K+. They did offer to place a used engine in for $4K. For the extra $1k, I went with agreeing to a engine rebuild of all new OEM parts.
My wife and I have owed tons of Toyotas of the years - currently owing a new model Toyota. However, the Lexus CT200h, is disappointing. We are hoping to get at least 100K more out of the Lemon purchased CT200h - after the rebuild.
