About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Happened in a residential neighborhood. In motion to make a turn around from the main street into a side street. I wanted to head back the direction from where I had just been. I was moving very slowly because of the small turning radius.I was just turning into the very opening of the side street. Upon curving into the "U" of my turn the car fiercely propelled forward. It felt like it was attempting a "0 to 60" launch. I looked at my foot in disbelief that I may have been on the gas pedal.no... my foot was on the brake. My car crashed into a large rock/boulder residential landscape that stopped it. I shut my engine off. Passenger side rear wheel was off the ground. Front right was elevated on top of rocks. I was fine. Very shaken and in disbelief of the rapid launch and situation. Rapid car had to be towed. Exterior damage. Underside damage as well.

Melted dashboard which creates glare right in my line of vision. I have noticed other older Lexus models have the same problem as well as other Toyota vehicles.

1.when backing out of the garage, the backup sensor sometimes starts beeping when there is nothing behind the vehicle. 2.driving car on dan ryan expressway. Pressing left side buttons on steering wheel, attempting to change the sound level, channel, or radio mode (FM1, FM2, am, etc.). instead, nothing may respond, or right side buttons respond; I.e., car began dialing a phone number (using bluetooth). Took car to my dealership, orland park Lexus of il on November 20, 2017. Was advised there is nothing they can do because neither of these problems has occurred in their presence. I had previously paid for an electronics testing check up just before my 7 year extended warranty expired (November 2017). I indicated these same types of concerns. They had not kept of record of this, stating they did not see any of the problems then either, so the check-out sheet (based on my initially expressed concerns) were reflected any where in their records. Instead, they took off the cost of the car review price (when they fixed other things). Thus erasing any record of my expressing concerns related to these issues. They also said it might indicate a computer issue, but as there was no problem when seen at their shop, no record is being kept. I asked what the price might be to replace the computer. They indicated not knowing. I have no records to 'upload'. I am concerned that if I had problems while driving, what if my phone is the next thing to go out? Chicago area streets are not that safe.

I am still waiting for the takata airbags (about 1.5-2 yrs) to be replaced due to the recall but dealer just says nothing can be done until airbags are received. In addition, my dashboard has been melting for the last three years and now has become a safety issue because the glare blocks my line of vision during the day and at night due to the reflection of the lights.I told the dealer about this issue as well as Lexus customer service but I am just told that 2010 is not included in the recall campaign. I have been unable to take an accurate picture because the glare/line of vision blockage is hard to see.

I was backing car out of driveway when all of a sudden car accelerated hitting curb, ran up an embankment and crashed into neighbors front steps. This is the first time it ever did that. It appears that throttle must have stuck close to maximum acceleration as car climbed up a 10-12 foot embankment and hit neighbors brick front steps with such force it picked rear wheels right off the ground.

The car intermittently does not start. Occurred four times in less than five months. Car bought new from dealer late 4/2010. After driving car around to run errands, car does not start. Brake is hard, and charging system warning sign appears. Sos safety feature often does not operate during these instances. First occurred 6/28/2010. Roadside called-required battery jump. Dealer evaluated car- claimed no issues with car or battery. Second occurrence: 7/6/10. Roadside called. Dealer evaluated car for two weeks. Third occurrence happened while at dealer. Lexus technician was able to replicate the problem. Technician thought the car was not recognizing the key. Battery for keys replaced. Fourth occurrence- 8/31/10. Roadside called. Brought to dealer. Claims there are no issues with car, but cannot provide explanation why this is occurring or give any guidelines to prevent the situation from occurring again. In all instances the car was never cold, so battery could not have been issue. Failure was replicated by dealer, but dealer unable to find adequate resolution to failure. However, claims car is "safe" to drive.

The contact owns a 2010 Lexus ES350. The contact stated that the vehicle is turned off by a keyless system, the engine was very quiet; therefore; the driver left the engine running for over four hours. The contact stated that a keyless system was very dangerous. He feels a key system would be less likely to cause the problem of leaving the engine on. The VIN wasn't available. The failure and the current mileages were 5,000. Updated 12/22/10 updated 12/30/10
