Had same problem as previous report. Buying car and had car inspected. Rack and pinion was leaking and was replaced by owner. I purchased car and had followup inspection by my mechanic who informed me that the rack and pinion problem is caused by a leaking timing chain cover. Oil deteriorates R&P boot which then leaks and effects steering. He also said the fix for replacing timing chain cover is to pull engine. Very expensive!!!!!!!

This is unbelievable my car is six years old with 72K took in in for maintenance and they found a steering rack leak with a price tag of $1500 to replace. My mechanic has not seen this before where a vehicle that has under 100K would have this replace at midlife point. Bought a Lexus thinking quality and was wrong never again will I buy another and of course Lexus will not do what is right instead they will wash their hands and call it "Normal wear and tear".
