instrument cluster goes off and steering becomes hard

at times when stopped and putting transmission into reverse, then turning the steering wheel all the power to the instrument cluster turns off and the steering becomes exceptionally hard to turn. Motor runs fine the whole time. This has finally happend 5 times in a row yesterday, where it had only been intermittient before. Going into a Lexus Dealership today.
